Sugar Rush

"Mamma, what's that?" Rin asked innocently as she walked into the kitchen.

"It's chocolate, Rin." Kagome replied, not taking her eyes off of what she was doing.

She was opening bags upon bags of candy and dumping them into a bowl. Halloween was coming, and she refused to wait until the last minute to prepare. She didn't want to have to deal with a bunch of angry little kids on a holiday. Or ever, really.

"What's chocolate?" Rin asked after a moment.

Kagome turned and looked at her in disbelief.

"You don't know?" She asked.

Rin shook her head.

"It's candy. …Do you know what candy, is Rin?"

Rin nodded vigorously.

"I had a small gumdrop once, but I'm not allowed to have candy anymore." She said, her eyes wide.

"Why?" Kagome asked, confused as to why Sesshomaru would ban her from having any candy.

"I dunno." Rin replied.

"Well, here. Do you want a piece of chocolate?" Kagome asked, smiling.

Rin instantly brightened.

"I can really have some?" She asked excitedly.

Kagome nodded, still smiling.

"Of course. We just won't tell Daddy, okay?" She said with a wink.

Rin grinned at her.

"Okay!"

'I just hope he won't smell it on her or anything.'

She broke a small piece off of her Kit Kat bar and handed it to Rin. It was gone in an instant.

"Did you even taste that?!" Kagome asked in shock.

Rin just continued grinning.

"I swear, it looked looked like you just inhaled that or somethi…"

She trailed off, her eyes trained on her daughter's face. Rin's face had suddenly broken out into a mischievous smile and her eyes glinted evilly.

"Uh… Rin…? Are… you okay?"

Suddenly, she was very afraid.

'Oh, god. What did I just unleash?!'

She blinked, and Rin was gone. Starting to panic, she ran into the living room to see Rin shredding the couch pillows and clawing the cushions like a feral animal. Kagome started to take a step forward, but instantly froze when Rin growled and barked at her. Seconds later, Rin almost literally flew off of the couch toward her. Kagome shrieked and ran while Rin chased her on all fours up the stairs, down the hall, and into the bathroom. Kagome leapt onto the counter, but by then, Rin had lost interesting her and was in the master bedroom. Only when she heard a crash did she finally climb down from the counter. She nervously poke her head around the corner. When she saw that the coast was clear, she crept down the hall to the bedroom.

"Rin…?" She called out quietly. "Are you okay?"

Finally, she made it to the bedroom. She very slowly poked her head around the corner.

"Rin?" She called again, just a bit louder. "Are you in here?"

Silence answered her. It seemed that Rin had left.

'I need to see what she broke… then I'll try to find her.' She decided.

Forcing herself to relax, she walked into the bedroom. She took a deep breath, calming herself. Rin was her daughter, after all. What reason did she have to be afraid of her? Just because she'd gone demonic over a piece of chocolate…

'Pssh! I've dealt with WAY worse than that before! Like a half naked centipede dem- WHAT WAS THAT NOISE?!'

She didn't have time to react.

Rin charged out from under that bed at full speed, snarling and and foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog. Kagome screamed bloody murder and hurled herself down the hall.

When Sesshomaru got home from work several hours later, he instantly grew confused. Why was there cotton, small pieces of wood, and other various debris all over the floor? Frowning slightly, he walked further into the house.

"Kagome?" He called out. "Rin?"

Silence.

Ignoring the shredded couch (for now), he headed upstairs. Without thinking, he headed down the hall. There, he found Kagome cowering in the closet. Rin was passed out on the floor nearby, sound asleep.

"I never want to see another chocolate bar in my life…" Kagome muttered.
