It was amazing, Kagome couldn't help but think, how much liquid a body contained. She watched as the bandit's life-force spilled out from between his clenched fingers- regardless of how feverishly he tried to keep the blood in; it was determined to leave his neck and nourish the hard ground underneath his trembling knees.
She hadn't meant to open up his throat with the arrow. It had been self-defense. He had threatened to mug her, rape her, and she had panicked when her miko powers had no effect on him- in her naivety she had never once thought that her own species would come the closest to destroying her.
Kagome looked on, almost disinterestedly, as the man went into shock, body jerking violently as his heart failed. Yet even after his powerful organ stopped pumping, the crimson wouldn't stop leaving his throat... Such a startling colour, for a substance that was mostly water.
Startled gasps and hoarse sobs filled the miko's ears, growing in intensity as she watched the pool spreading towards her slippered feet. With a jolt, she realised that she was the source of the noise.
When reality crashed in, it did so with an abruptness that took her breath away. She had just killed a man.
Tears welled up and streaked down her face, a seemingly never-endless supply of salinated water washed across her cheeks as she wrestled with her conscience.
It was amazing, Kagome couldn't help but think, how much liquid a body contained.
