Loneliness Is Suffered Silently

A/N: Music from my favourite movie... although it is quite a happy soundtrack, this piece always makes me sad. Please let me know what you think.

Prompt: Comptine D'un Autre été L'après-midi - Yann Tiersen (Amelie Soundtrack)

Kagome stared at the sky, willing something to happen, anything to change the monotony she felt. Weeks. It had been weeks since he had last come into her life; a beautiful force of nature- immovable and ethereal... he had made her feel like a child in comparison. And she had, surprisingly, welcomed that. He was a demon of his own making, and she respected him.

Sesshoumaru. An odd name. It carried such violent connotations. But it fit him somehow- she could never imagine anyone else earning the title that adorned his name. It echoed in her mind, and she let it spill forth into the air... a lilting vowel and light sibilance came through in her pronounciation. It had sounded much nicer when he had said it.

Sighing softly, the miko wondered when she had become a lovestruck fool. Her companions weren't aware of her infatuation with the demon Lord... yet they were quite aware that something was amiss.

"What did you say, Kagome?" Sango's firm voice cut through her daydreams.

"I was just wondering why we keep running into Lord Sesshoumaru, that's all."

Her own voice gave nothing away, except a false concern over what should be a bad situation. But she wanted to keep running into him. To talk to him, and have him listen; to become a mother-figure to Rin. And she would have too. Kagome would have done all of these things...

If not for the fact that he and his entourage had disappeared without a trace.
