He chuckled, but the sound held no amusement and was soon choked off when more blood filled his lungs. Darkness began eating away at his sight. It wouldn’t be long now. He no longer felt the pain of his injury.

“Any…thing…for a…lady…”

His arm lost what strength it had and fell limply.

“Akahito!”

Kagome wanted to scream and shout that this wasn’t the way. How could anyone believe death was the solution to a problem? It was the coward’s way out, to escape the turmoil his deeds had wrought. But it was useless to tell him, because Akahito was gone.
