She had tried to atone for her horrendous thoughts by aiding Kikyo when Naraku’s miasma would have killed her. Surely, if given the chance, Akahito could find his own absolution. Staring into his pain filled, accepting gaze, she knew he’d chosen death as the means to atone for his sins. 

“Miko,” Sesshomaru said with steel in his voice. “Move away from him.”

She ignored him and pressed her own hands over Akahito’s to help slow the bleeding. As gently as she could, she lowered him to the ground.

“You didn’t have to do this,” she whispered to the fallen man.
