Intense pain.

Glancing down with widened eyes, he saw Sesshomaru’s hand gripping the pummel of his sword, his blade disappearing more than halfway through the center of his chest. He knew this would happen when he had purposefully lowered his sword, allowing the fatal blow to strike him. 

It had been so long since he’d had a sword impale him that Akahito had forgotten just how painful the experience could be. But he’d never sustained such a grievous wound.

Death was fast on his heels. 

His pulse raced at the thought of dying even though that had been his aim.
