Kagome’s words kept coming back to haunt Akahito.

Ire rising at the recalled damning sentence, he turned on his heel swiftly and punched his fist several inches into his home, the all but secrete retreat he had taken them to be alone. He didn’t even feel the pain of impact.

Why didn’t she understand? Why didn’t they? The voices in his head, the dead villagers, the ones he was supposed to protect. They were in his mind, wailing at him, accusing him.

Why, why, WHY!? they cried.

“Silence!” Akahito clutched his head.

CLIFF NOTE #1: If it is not obvious, Akahito is beginning to lose his mind. Why? One, he lost his beloved Yuki tragically, two, for so long he had been filled with anger and wanting vengeance for her demise but since his father was already dead, he wanted to destroy his legacy, and three, Kagome--the woman he thought to be his salvation and save him from himself--hates him, making him question everything he had done. Now he is confused and his mind is 'fracturing', in a way.
