Chapter 6: Guardian

“Do you think everyone’s alright?” Sango asked, looking around the prayer hall with a wary curiosity, her hand latched tight on Miroku’s sleeve. Miroku sighed, almost in heaven as Sango jumped and moved closer to him when a sudden thump emitted from a far corner of the room, nearly pressing her body against him in a sensual manner. He felt a bit guilty using Sango’s fear against her, but that guilt was more of a shadow in his mind as he bravely wrapped an arm around her shoulder, bringing her even closer.

A small noise erupted from her, and even though he couldn’t see her face underneath the pale makeup, he knew she had to be blushing. Though her redden contact lenses killed the mood a bit, they were freaky and he wonder why she chose to be a vampire for Halloween, why couldn’t she be a sexy cop?

“What was that noise Miroku?” She whispered.

He raised an eyebrow, confusion in his dark-blue eyes. All he could hear was the strong wind outside, which was weird since there wasn‘t a breeze a couple minutes ago when they entered. “Noise?”

“Yeah, clicking noises.”

Miroku looked around, trying to find this clicking noise that Sango was talking about. “Where exactly do you hear it?” He could feel her stiffen besides him, her fingers nearly ripping his sleeve.

“I-it s-stopped behind us.”

Miroku felt his blood drop, his skin prickling to tiny bumps. It was a stupid idea but he had to look, and so he turned slowly, the lump in his throat increasing with each second passing, the shivering not stopping and his hands shaking. He could hear Sango gulping, her head turned straight and her eyes wide. Her teeth had her bottom lip in a tight bite, breaking the skin and a dabble of blood trickle down. Turning his head completely, he almost closed his eyes, not wanting to see what was behind them, but he kept them open, and his eyes widened when he saw what was there.

It was a dog.

Miroku gave a big sigh, letting go of Sango to completely turn around to see the small dog. Seeing that Miroku seemed calm and not screaming, she too turned around to see an animal.

“Oh, it’s a dog…” Came the confused voice of Sango, her eyes narrowed slightly at the sight of a playful dog wagging his tail. It was a cute and merely a small puppy with fluffy white fur.

“Yeah, for a second there, I thought it was something else.” He admitted, running his fingers through its fur causing the dog to approach him and snuggle closer to him and his hand.

Knowing that there was no danger, Sango gave a small giggle. “So you were scared.”

He sighed, “Unfortunately…”

“Wait, I see something underneath its chin.” Sango crouched next to him, making sure her dress didn’t show off anything underneath and lifting the dog’s head. She wiped her hand and when she pulled her hand back, it was red.

“Dammit! Why won’t this door open!?” Kagome yelled out, grasping the small slit of the shoji door, pulling with all her strength but merely bruising her fingers. “Sesshomaru, are you gonna help me?” She asked, letting go of the door only to cross her arms underneath her breasts. She glared at him, waiting for him to step up but all he did was stare blankly at her. He finally moved, scoffing at her when she huffed.

He observed the door, placing his hands on it, feeling the moistened texture. Suddenly he raised his leg and gave a fierce kick. But it was for naught as the door remained in place. “That was strange…”

“What do you mean strange?”

“You would have thought since shoji door are made of paper, it would have collapsed, but it felt as if I hit a brick wall.” He shook his leg out, a vibrating sensation coursing down.

“Hell no! We can’t be trapped! I’m not gonna die here!” This renewed her efforts and she started pounding the door, kicking it, even though it made her jump in place, holding her foot in pain.

Sesshomaru sighed, rubbing his ear as he felt his eyebrow twitched. “You’ve been hanging out with Inuyasha for far too long.”

“Aren’t you worried that we’re trapped in here?!” Her eyes furiously glared into his own, making him take a subtle step back, her temper a dangerous thing.

“You’re overrating and panicking.” That was the wrong thing to say to Kagome, since she literally growled at him. “Calm down, there’s a possibility that we just need to finish exploring the house.”

“I’m not going!”

“Okay, you can stay here.” With that said, Sesshomaru turned around, picking up his lantern and continued on his way, leaving Kagome behind.

“Wait! Don’t leave me!” Kagome hurriedly followed him, quickly trailing after his light as hers was still not lit. She gave one last glance at the door, wondering why it wouldn’t open and the purpose of locking them in this shrine.
