Chapter 12: Sweet Liberty

“How dare you leave me?!”

Kagome jumped, the eerie demonic voice screeching around them, but unfortunately, Sesshomaru didn’t hear a thing, only felt when the girl besides him flinched.

“Is everything alright?”

“You think you could escape me!?”

Kagome whimpered, hiding her head against the cloth of Sesshomaru’s costume. Her head was pounding, the screeching increasing in volume but deepening with depth as the cute little girl voice disappeared to show the true nature of the demon.

“I hear Akuma… we’re getting close to the exit.”

“I thought we were friends… best of friends, don’t we stick together?”

The voice sweetened, the dark undertones of the demonic voice has all but dissipated, trying to lure her into a false sense of security, but it was too late. Kagome knew what she was, she wasn’t a small child, ignorant to the scheme of things. Akuma already showed her, her true nature. It didn’t help with her attitude either nor her state of dress.

“She’s angry…”

Sesshomaru lightly frowned, a deep furrow between his brows. This Akuma was rather troublesome, even though he couldn‘t hear or see this bothersome being. It didn’t want them to leave the shrine. But he wasn’t about to listen to some ghost and heed her warnings or temper tantrums.

“Kagome, please don’t leave me… I have no one…”

A sniffle was added, but that didn’t convince Kagome one bit. She felt a bit spooked when she mentioned her name as she never gave it out. Then everything changed.

Black sounded her, a repeat of what happened minutes ago. The same dimension where it was endless space, where the floors weren’t solid and there were no walls. A little girl appeared, an angry look on her dirty face, smudges of black liquid seemed to foam at her mouth, dripping lazily to the mixture of blackness.

“You have made me angry… that’s not very nice.”

“S-Stay away from me, you monster!”

“But why, we were going to have fun here, just the two of us.” A saccharine smile replaced the angry scowl she had on her face, though black liquid continued to drip from her mouth. It was nauseating, Kagome felt sick, a low gurgle echoing in her stomach.

“I want nothing to do with you!”

“You can’t possibly mean that, our fate are intertwined,” Her face tilted down, light caressing the pale flower in her hand. “We are to be together forever.”

“The hell we are!” Kagome growled out, taking several unsteady steps backwards. However, each step back, it seemed as if the girl was getting closer, but she wasn’t moving, her thin legs planted on the floor. “Stay where you are! Don’t come any closer!”

In a couple seconds, the girl stood before her, still fiddling with the delicate petals of the rose, portraying the look of innocence. “Now, now… you don’t mean that…” The demon tutted, like she was calming down an angry child. After that, she looked up and spread her arms open. Then, she hugged her and Kagome couldn’t resist the shudder that raked through her body or the scream of pain when the demon’s claws dug into her back, puncturing her soft skin.

“Don’t forget me now!”

“Kagome, snap out of it.” Came Sesshomaru’s voice, and she opened her eyes, noticing they were standing still and her fingers were digging into his arms. “Why were you screaming, and let go of my arm.”

“I-I… Akuma, s-she touched me.” Kagome shuddered, feeling the same icy, sharp claws of that demon. “I know what you were going to say… I was here the entire time.” She tilted her head down, still latched to Sesshomaru’s arm, but her nails weren’t digging into his arm anymore.

“What did she say to you?” He was curious of course, of something that he truly hasn’t noticed or experienced before. She would stop walking for a second before whatever took place had an effect on real life.

“She said t-that we’re going to be together…”

The screeching of the house finally simmered down and a peaceful, non-oppressive atmosphere covered the vicinity. It was largely different from before when the shrine was surrounded in an ominous aura. Kagome felt calm, a bit nervous, however she could tell they would soon be out of the house and into the courtyard.

“Hopefully the others have found their ways out.”

“It’s doubtful they were stuck in a similar situation such as ours, they’re picks were buildings with fewer rooms and no elaborate passageways than the main shrine house.”

Kagome nodded her head, keeping his arm close to her. She could feel it in her bones, that the exit was soon be upon them. They reached a door and could feel the brisk chill emitting from it, and it wasn’t from the suspense of the place, merely the cold.

She pulled out her phone from the secret pocket of her costume, reading the time. They have been in there for nearly two hours. She knew the house wasn’t extremely big, but once curiosity took a hold on someone, time seemed to fly by.

She welcomed the chilled breeze as they opened the final door to safety, letting the wind stroke her moistened and smeared face. “We’re finally out! Yay!” Kagome jumped in the air. Her shout of happiness was heard and a scrambled of shoes stomping against the stone bricks brought her out of her happy dance. Before stood the rest of the gang. Kagome ran towards them, hugging each one of them.

“That was the most scariest shit ever!” Shippou yelled out, hugging Kagome when she came to him first. Kagome merely nodded.

“I guess we learn from here on out to never follow one of Inuyasha’s harebrained idea.” Miroku gave his input, causing the said male to growl at him before huffing and looking away with a blush on his face.

“You idiot, you were in this too.” Sango hissed, ignoring the feign look of hurt on Miroku’s face. When everyone glared at him, his expression changed.

“Enough arguing! Let’s go home now, this place gives me the creeps.” The group hastily escaped the dark shrine, glad to leave the horrors behind.
