Chapter 11: Four's a Party

“Miroku… I’m scared.”

“I know.” He sighed, huddling together in a corner after they both woke up after that terrible and grotesque event. The lanterns were lit and they felt a small sense of safety, just to see in the unknown eased a bit of fear. But not a lot, not when that thing was still possibly lurking around. They were scared stiff, too paralyzed to move from their one spot. “We should move.”

“We don’t know if that thing is still out there, what if it attacks us?”

“It didn’t the last time, it just spooked us and too much was going on, that’s why we fainted.” He tried to reason with her, knowing she wouldn’t move an inch if she felt their current spot was safe enough. “Don’t you think it would more beneficial if we leaved this place? We would be outside, away from here.”

“B-but that thing!”

“It’s not coming back.”

“You promise?”

Miroku rubbed that back of his head before giving a hesitant chuckle. “Well there’s a fifty-fifty chance of it coming back, but I’m certain that I can protect you from it.”

“How, you fainted after you encountered it.”

“Do you realize how terrifying it was seeing that?” He leveled her a small glare.

Sango sighed, resting her head on her bent knees, the fabric of her dress tucked underneath her. She didn’t want to move, but she knew Miroku was right, it would be better to be outside and away from this place, however, what she encountered scared the living shit out of her. She didn’t want to experience the horror of seeing that thing again.

“C’mon Sango, I’m pretty sure everyone is waiting for us.” Miroku stood up, brushing off the dust that covered his robes before holding out a hand for the girl. Sango looked at it reluctantly, gently placing her hand in his.

A soft moan echoed causing Sango to squeak and Miroku to tense up.

“I-I told you!”

“It’s probably nothing.” He tried to believe that himself, but when another moan echoed out, he nearly jumped out of his robes.

“Ow… my head.” That voice was familiar.

“Shippou?” Miroku tentatively asked, and soon the appearance of the youngest member of their group came into view. “Where’s Inuyasha?”

The boy’s red hair whipped around to see the space behind him. “I thought he was behind me.” He shrugged his shoulders. “He’s probably lost or something.”

A scream came next.

“That sounds like him.”

“Let’s go.” Sango and Miroku grabbed their lanterns, rushing ahead with Shippou to find the idiot of their group.

“Hey… I think this place is haunted.” Shippou said, merely smiling when the two ahead of him glared at him.

-------

Goddamn it. Inuyasha cursed in his mind, holding his lantern out as he tried to find his way back to Shippou. He told the little bastard to wait since he had to piss and there wasn’t a bathroom. It was abandoned anyways so he just pissed near a corner, and when he turned around to tell Shippou he was done, he wasn’t even there. That just made his night even worse.

“Shippou! When I see you again, I will hurt you!” He yelled out, his voice echoing. He huffed when the little twerp didn’t say anything back. Did he really go that far without him? It just made him angrier.

A giggle resounded in front of him. “Shippou, stop laughing, this isn’t funny you brat!” It continued giggling, turning into harsh laughter. “When I get up there, you better start running!”

As he walked further down the hallway that seemingly continued from the preparation building to the prayer hall underneath the entire structure, he couldn’t help but noticed the giggle sounded more from a little girl than a boy.  He hoped that was Shippou, if not, then he was screwed.

“Hello!”

He stopped. Turning wide eyes around, he noticed a transparent little girl, smiling at him. He screamed and started running down the hallway.

“Amaterasu! Jesus! Allah! Buddha! Someone help me!”

He heard a loud snicker up ahead, and that snicker sounded very familiar. He felt relieved but at the same time, he grew angrier.

“Really Inuyasha, you gonna yell out all those deities?” Came Shippou’s mocking tone, and after turning the corner, he spotted the trio, each trying to hold in their laughter.

He went up to Shippou and smacked his head, bending the triangle-shaped ears and causing the small male to cry out and try to swipe him with his hands.

“You little bastard! Running off like a little bitch!”

“Now, now Inuyasha, I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation on why Shippou wandered off.” Miroku said, holding Inuyasha back from throttling the younger male after he stuck his tongue out. Everybody looked at him, waiting.

Shippou started rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. “I wanted to scare Inuyasha.”

There was a piercing silence and Sango broke it, sighing and shaking her head. Inuyasha bellowed, reaching for the smaller male to try to strangle him.

“I coulda died!”

“Nah, I’m sure you would have kicked their asses.” Shippou teased from behind Miroku, dodging Inuyasha’s attempts to grab him.

“Enough!” Everybody stopped and looked at Miroku, surprised at his yell. He rarely yelled, maybe this experience was too much for him. “Look, we’re all here, this is great.” He started, eyeing the two males who were trying--very discreetly--to continue their shenanigans. “We need to get out of here and we need to find Kagome and Sesshomaru, so stop fighting.”

“How are we supposed to do that? We can’t even get out of here.”

“What do you mean Shippou?” Sango asked, puzzlement on her face.

Shippou rubbed his head, feeling a headache forming. “Every time we tried to leave, the door won’t open or a mysterious wall appears blocking our exit… it’s really annoying.”

“That happens when some freaky shit gonna appear.”

“Like an apparition or eidolon?” Sango whispered, feeling a sudden chill.

“Well, we could try to head back to the prayer hall, we closed the door ourselves to keep the cold out, we’ll see if we can open it.” Miroku stated, and with that, the group headed back to main area, feeling a bit less scared after forming the two pairs together. It always seem safer with a larger number of people.

Prompt: Eidolon
