Chapter 10: Hey, I See You

“Hey.”

Kagome turned around, hearing that faint whisper. It sounded young, almost like a kid was talking to her.

“Hey.”

“Sesshomaru…”

“Kagome, not right now.” Sesshomaru said, still holding onto Kagome’s hand as they briskly walked through the hallways, trying to find some exit.

“Hey… I see you.” It came from behind her, and she frantically glanced back only to see nothing. The voice giggled, finding amusement in tormenting her.

“What do you want?”

Sesshomaru slowed down and looked back. “What are you talking about?” He gave her a puzzled look and he was probably thinking he finally found her to be crazy. Maybe she was going crazy.

“I see you everywhere.”

“There’s a creepy voice that said it's seeing us.” Kagome mumbled out, getting closer to Sesshomaru as her hands grasped his limb tightly, nearly breaking the male’s circulation.

“No… just you.”

“O-okay never-mind, just me.”

Sesshomaru seemed to be guarded, he looked around, only spotting the old calligraphy paintings and scattered furniture. Also he couldn’t hear what Kagome was experiencing.

Then he saw the white of Kagome’s wig lift into the air, like someone was standing besides her and playing with the fake hair. Kagome saw where his attention was, noting the slight widening of his eyes. Kagome turned around, but nothing was out of the ordinary.

“So pretty.”

“Who are you?”

The voice just giggled, a sweet tinkling noise that seemed to echo around them. It slowly started disappearing, fading lightly into the background. A shiver went down her back when she felt someone glare holes behind. Slowly turning around, her grip tightened.

It was a small girl with matted hair, a cheeky smile on her smudged face while she was donned in a dirty kimono. Her arms and legs were covered in scars and grime, but in her hand laid a pale flower, a white rose.

“Sesshomaru… l-look.”

He looked where she was pointing at, but didn’t see anything but empty space.

“He can’t see me.”

Everything seemed to fade, only leaving her and the little creepy girl. Only black emptiness was all Kagome could see, even her grip on Sesshomaru was nonexistent. He wasn’t even there, he too faded away.  Her only protection was gone and her terror increased tenfold, shivering when her only company was that girl standing at a distance from her.

“I thought I’ve lost you…” The little girl said, skipping around in circles, the cunning gleam in her eyes made Kagome wary.

Kagome hesitantly stepped back, feeling off-balanced when it didn’t feel like solid ground beneath her feet.

“Are you leaving me again?” After that question, the little girl stopped skipping, tilting her head in curiosity as her dark eyes scrutinized her. "I was devastated before, do you wish to hurt me again?"

Kagome blinked, nearly shrieking when the little girl appeared in front of her, the girl’s cold eyes peering at her while that unnerving smile never disappeared from her cracked lips.

“I have missed you… terribly so.”

“I-I don’t know y-you.” Kagome stuttered, feeling utterly cold with the little girl standing so close to her.

“Aw really, it’s only been a while.” She said, her voice sickly sweet and that smile fake, her eyes seemed to be that of a predator, luring her. “I thought I was your friend.” She even had the nerve to pout.

Wait! Was this the imaginary friend? Kagome wondered to herself, trying to subtly slide her foot back without bringing any attention to herself and trying not to fall.

“Silly girl.” Another giggle. “I’m not imaginary, that would mean I’m harmless.”

“Y-you killed those children.”

“They didn’t want to play with me.” She crossed her arms, looking annoyed. “Hagane didn’t want to play jumpsies with me, it was only befitting that he broke all his bones. Nao didn’t want to skip ropes, of course I hung him,” The little girl seemed to get an excited shine in her deaden eyes. “I told Junna to play Marco Polo with me, she mysteriously drowned.”

Kagome felt sick when the see-through girl giggled at her own joke.

“Yasuna refused to play house with me, scalding oil fried her. And last, but not least, Fusayo, she couldn’t play hide-n-seek. I’m sure her parents had a blast finding her.”

“Y-you’re terrible!”

“Aw… you don’t mean that, you were there watching it all!”  Her lips trembled as if she wanted to cry. It was all an act. “At least your parents had a peaceful death.”

“You’re confusing me with someone else!” Kagome was surprised her own voice was strong, not even stuttering at the morbid actions of the girl. Just because she felt angry that they didn’t want to play with her. And that poor girl had to witness all the murders of her family, how could she have stand that, was she also terrified of this being? “Have you ever thought they couldn’t see you!?”

“I don’t care, they didn’t play with me so they got their just desserts.”

This girl is a monster!

“So mean, have you forgotten my name?”

“I don’t even know your name! I don’t want to know!”  She yelled out, the fear still prominent, but her will was coming back. She felt unnerved as well, this girl could read her mind.

“Remember, it was Akuma.”

“A-Akuma…” It meant demon, this girl was a demon. She probably tricked the girl thinking she was merely an imaginary friend, there to play with her.

The girl gave her a wicked grin. “I‘m so glad to have finally found you, don‘t forget my name now!”

The black emptiness was gone, and she felt an insistent tug on her arm. Glancing up with wide eyes, she saw the irritated look on Sesshomaru’s face.

“W-what happened?” She held her head, feeling the slick moisture that gathered on her forehead and the uncomfortable plastered of her costume against her flesh. She felt a headache forming, her balance awkward.

“You blanked out for a second.”

“W-wait you didn’t see what happened? And what do you mean a second? I was gone for minutes!”

The same familiar puzzled look graced his features once more. “Gone? You were here the entire time.”

“No! That’s not possible, I was somewhere else and there was this girl, she killed the entire family and… and her name was Akuma!”

Sesshomaru shook his head, before calmly saying even though it freaked him out, just slightly. “An apparition maybe, I saw something lift that awful wig up a couple seconds ago.”

“That was her!” Kagome yelled, the fear escalating to new proportions.

“You’re becoming hysterical, calm down.”

“We need to get out of here, before she comes back!”

Sesshomaru merely nodded, not wishing to stand in this place much longer after all that paranormal activities started happening. They started running after Kagome took her shoes off, not caring that her tights would become dirty.

A cheerful giggle echoed behind them.
