The Handy

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any medicine brand that deals with sleepiness.

Anything that she put her mind into, she was able to accomplish it, but this one task seemed nearly impossible.

It was difficult trying to snatch her boyfriend’s phone without him noticing for a good minute where it went. She nearly got caught once a couple months ago, when she thought he was sleeping. Thank the gods she disguised her attempt as a stretch or else she would answering a complicated question she would rather avoid. He would surely ask why she was looking through his phone and would probably get mad or annoyed when she couldn‘t come up with an appropriate answer.

She couldn’t handle his cold, blank stare.

During those couple months, she have been thinking, coming up with a plan on how to take his phone. She have been observing him, but during each time, every single day, his phone was always in his hand, not really doing anything with it, but holding it. It frustrated her immensely, why was he being so overly protective of that phone if he wasn‘t using it? It didn’t make any damn sense to her. He just needs to leave it alone for a couple minutes and do something else that would distract him while she scrolled through it.

Don’t get the wrong idea, she wasn’t jealous, just a bit curious. She already looked through his computer for any unpleasant information he had stored in there and came up with nothing. She even checked through his emails, his password ridiculously easy and not very creative. And Facebook had nothing interesting. He barely got on Twitter, finding it a waste of time telling people what he was doing every damn minute even though she forced him to make one. And she knew she wouldn’t find anything on Instagram, he never takes any pictures of himself, though he did have one hundred followers for a blank page.

She wanted that phone and she would do anything for an opportunity to get it. That phone could hold the answers, she knew it did.

“Kagome, what are you thinking?” He said without looking up from his phone, replying to a message while the TV blazed about a cop show. “You have been standing there making weird facial expressions for the past five minutes.”

Damn, does he know?! Kagome quickly tried to come up with an answer, maybe she could blame it on her monthly feminine troubles, even though her period already passed last week. “I’m just cramping.” She lamely said, fisting her shirt and groaning pathetically, hoping he would buy the act. He had a knack of being completely oblivious to certain things.

“Maybe you should take one of your pills, I don’t want you getting into one of your moods because you are cramping.”

Blunt bastard. “No, I ran out, I need you to go to the store and buy me some.” The store was just down the road, taking only a couple minutes to get there. Maybe he would leave the phone this time since he already knew what kind pain reliever she usually bought.

Sesshomaru sighed and got up, putting on his jacket and leaving the apartment with his phone in hand. He barely closed the door before yanking it open again when Kagome screamed.

“No!”

“What’s wrong?” He asked, his honey-brown eyes full of concern.

Damn, I did it again! She quickly glanced at the TV, using it as a cover-up. “That bastard kidnapped that woman’s kids, so terrible!” She added a sniffle at the end and hid her face with her hand, hoping it made her seem like she was holding back tears.

“Hn.” He merely grunted and left the apartment once more, apparently a bit peeved by her moods.

Kagome pouted, crossing her arms beneath her breasts as she tried to come up with another plan, something that would definitely work. Or maybe she could make him tired enough tonight and she could just take it while he was sleeping. An idea popped into her mind and she quickly dialed his number. He answered after the third ring, which irritated her.

“Buy some ZzzQuil too, the liquid one.” He agreed and hung up. Kagome smirked, time for the master plan.

Sesshomaru arrived a couple minutes later with the requested items, his entire outfit was covered in snow. Kagome herself was busy in the kitchen, cleaning as she got her nerves together for what she was about to do. She hoped it was okay to mix the medicine in some soda, she didn’t want to go to jail if something were to happen to him.

He handed her the items before retreating to the living room. “Sesshomaru, do you want something to drink, some soda or something?” She called out from her place, taking out a glass cup from the cabinets.

“Yeah.”

She got his drink ready and poured a bit of the sleeping liquid into the cup after reading the instructions on the recommended dosage for an adult male. She cheerfully entered the room, placing his drink on the table and walked away. She failed to notice that after the first sip, Sesshomaru didn’t take another one after tasting the bitter flavor.

Night has fallen and the duo got ready for bed. Kagome was a little worried as Sesshomaru seemed perfectly fine and not even an ounce drowsy. The man plugged the phone up to the charger and laid it on his end table, and turned on the TV to watch the evening news.

The stupid thing didn’t work! Kagome forced herself to stay up as well, despite the fact she was already nodding off once she laid down. It was around one o’clock when he finally turned off the TV and got himself comfortable, jostling her awake. She waited about ten to fifteen minutes before actually attempting to get the phone, just to make sure Sesshomaru was soundly asleep. She quietly left the bed, knowing better than to lean over him as she was a klutz and could accidentally fall on top of him. She tiptoed around, careful to not step on the creaky spots underneath the carpet as she slowly, but surely neared the desired object.

Finally at her destination, she grabbed the phone, feeling like she was on top of the world, like she climbed Mount Everest, like she was the first woman to land on the moon, like she discovered the complexity behind humans. She just accomplished the most impossible task in the world and her prize was in her hand. But everything stopped as she came across a roadblock.

Sesshomaru had a connect-the-dots passcode.

Kagome took a moment to think, before she swiped her finger across the screen, connecting the dots to form a ‘S’. It didn’t work, so she tried several more times before a pop up showed saying the phone was locked and to unlock it she needed to go to his email.

“Damn it…” She cursed, trying to figure out how to bypass this. Her adrenaline was fading, her excitement quickly being squashed.

“Kagome, what are you doing?”

She jumped, her heart nearly stopping as her boyfriend’s voice broke the dark, silenced room. She was caught red-handed, with the light of the phone shining on her guilty expression. There was no point in lying, he found out.

“Were you trying to look through my phone?”

“Yes…” Kagome whimpered, placing the phone down as the man turned on the lamp. She pouted, feeling very much like a child, waiting for punishment.

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “You know, you could have asked me.”

Her mouth was gapped as she never thought of that idea. How could she be so one-track minded in this situation, the easiest solution to this problem was to simply ask him. Now she felt a little dumb, he was probably thinking she didn’t trust him or something. Or thinking she was jealous, when she wasn’t.

Sesshomaru took the phone and unlocked it, passing her the phone before turning around to fall back to sleep.

Her eyes were bright as she took it in, looking through the address book, which was very professional, stating first and last names and not a single pet name. Even her name wasn’t listed as ‘baby’ or ‘my love’, just Kagome Higurashi. She looked through his text messages, finding it to be a big disappointment.

It was blank.

She went through all that trouble just to see an empty inbox and sent box. She growled to herself, feeling highly annoyed at the discovery. She placed the phone down, stomped to her side of the bed and threw the covers over her, fighting to fall back asleep again.

Sesshomaru would now definitely think she was jealous.
