Hideaway

The village was large and she had to worse of luck picking it for a resting stop.

She wandered around, her feet blistering when she stepped over rocks and such that covered the dirt pathways. It has been a while since she last encountered anybody. She wondered where the exit was, and knowing how horrid her sense of direction was, it was possible that she was near the town’s center than close to the exits leading out of the village.

She gave a sigh, forcing her weary body to continue. It was still jet black, only the honey rays of the moon were her light, guiding her along the beaten path.

Where am I? She came at a crossroad, with no sign of anything in any direction.

But a whimper pulled her attention. Turning to the sound, she walked down the middle street, passing what seemed to be a market place.

The sound stop, and she was confused.

“Is anyone there?” She whispered, not wanting to bring any unwanted attention onto herself.

The noise resume once more, and she walked to the hut. Peering through the mat doorway, a large group of people were inside each staring at her with fear and anxiety.

Someone grabbed her and pulled her in, and the flap closed once more, shrouding the room in darkness.

“Wha--” Someone plastered a grimy, wet hand over her mouth, cutting off her speech.  Minutes passed before the hand removed itself, allowing her to speak once more. “Who are you? What’s going on here?”

A gruff voice answered her question,  “We are the villagers that were lucky enough to escape.”

“What’s going on outside, what were those things?” Kagome nervously asked.

“The living dead, they are attracted to spiritual energy. It is not wise that you are here, priestess.”
