A Rock and A Hard Place

A Rock and A Hard Place

Gathering the courage to rise from her futon, she drew in a deep breath to calm her nerves. She was already extremely paranoid once she left the company of her friends three years ago to journey on her own, but without their protection, she was much more vulnerable, hence her paranoia.

Sometimes she hated her dependence on them, but as an untrained, girl from the future, killing demons wasn’t on her list of priorities.

Peeking both ways after quietly sliding the door open, Kagome tiptoed out the room, the corridors dark and ominous; it sent numerous chills down her spine as she unpleasantly thought of things that scared her down to her core.

What if something was behind her, something she couldn’t see?

Stop it girl! Get yourself together! She furiously thought, a determined look crossing her face. But another scream wiped it off immediately, and she felt a cold sweat cling to her hands and face.

Her limbs trembled, and her breaths coming out short.

Kami, she was hyperventilating. The savior of ancient Japan was scared out of her wits from creepy little screams. If Inuyasha saw her, he would be laughing his ass off, calling her all types of names.

I wish Inuyasha was here with his recklessness! Maybe that will give me a confident boost! But all she felt was hesitation. Once reaching the outer lobby area, a dimmed light peeked through the shoji doors and though she felt quite relieved someone was up, her instincts flared.

Pacing back and forth in front of the door, she thought of the outcomes.

Okay, going through that door, something bad could happen very quickly. Staying here is only holding off the inevitable. It was difficult to choose, but her abhorred naïveté dominated her decision and she opened the door.
