Kagome shrugged into her star-patterned pajamas, thankful that, for once, she wouldn’t have to deal with her clingy mate. She could get into bed and actually sleep without him bothering her, since he was away on business.
Of course, she missed him, and couldn’t wait for him to get home, but she always looked on the bright side, and a peaceful night’s sleep was most certainly a bright side.
Kagome slipped into bed and buried herself into the covers. She was blissfully asleep in seconds.
Her cellphone rang, bolting her upright, her heart racing. She put her hand to her chest and looked to the side, grabbing her phone off of her nightstand. She answered it quickly.
“Hello?” she asked breathlessly.
“Mate,” came the reply.
Kagome glared at nothing in particular. Why in the world did she think she could have a good night’s sleep? Had she subconsciously ignored the fact that her mate had separation anxiety?
Yes. Yes, she had.
“Sesshomaru,” she muttered, slumping into her pillows. “How’s Beijing?”
He ignored her. “Are you well? This Sesshomaru did not know if you were safe.”
“I don’t get into that much trouble,” she moaned.
“Hnn.”
There was silence for a few beats, until Kagome prompted him. “Well, if that’s all, we should say goodbye.”
“No,” he said.
His voice was still indifferent, but he had protested so quickly; he was desperate to stay on the phone with her.
Kagome sighed and resigned herself to another sleepless night comforting her mate.

Separation anxiety Sesshomaru is one of my favorites, like possessive Sesshomaru and Yakuza Sesshomaru.
