“Just who the hell do you think you’re talking to!?”

Two pairs of eyes followed her as she paced the living room with fury. One was filled with adoration while the other held a trace of worry. When her argument over the phone escalated she quickly stormed off into another room. Madison rushed underneath a coffee table when a door’s slam echoed throughout the small home.

A toothy grin decorated Shippo’s face as he rested his head in a hand. “Man, she’s so fucking hot.”

Sho glared at his mother’s guest. “Dude! Right fucking here.”

“Then get outta my head, bro!”

“You were speaking out loud!” Sho released a frustrated sigh while massaging his temples. “Whatever. You’re just some baby in a suite anyway.”

“Baby!? Pft! I’m almost two hundred fucking years old.”

“Yeah? In what world?”

“The demon world.”

Sho rolled his eyes. “Of course.”  He was just about to get up when his mom suddenly returned to the room. Her face looked calm and collected but her whitened knuckles told him otherwise. “Hey, so what’s up?”

Kagome slouched in the armchair across from them. Her head faced the ceiling. A few giggles melded in with the monotone of her voice. “Oh nothing in particular. I’m just being flown to Japan for about two weeks is all.”

“Oh ok if that’s all. Wait. What?” Sho walked over to where she sat. “Why?”

“Mr. Gurinman’s request in order to um…take care of some legal stuff.”

He raised an eyebrow at her. “Legal stuff?”

She sat up quickly and waved her hands. “Yeah! It’s nothing too serious. My presence at the uh company is just needed. Nothing more. So don’t worry.”

“Well I wouldn’t have to if you would just tell me what’s going on. First the guy shows up randomly out of nowhere to take you out to discuss quote unquote business after which you came home acting weird and honestly haven’t been the same ever since.”

“Well yeah but…”

“Then whenever I try to bring up the topic you always find a way to diverge to another subject. And just so you know I’m still recovering from the last time you offered to brush my hair. You’re still banned from it by the way. Because of that stunt, I’m growing it out.”

“Ok fine but…”

“And on top of that you’ve been unusually secretive with the mail lately and all of a sudden Green man sends this kid along to act as your…”

“Sho! Please! Look, I understand your concern. I really do. I just…need a little more time is all before I’m ready to tell you what you need to know. So please, just give me your patience. It’s all I’m asking from you. Please.”

He studied her face for a moment before giving in. “Fine,” he sighed reluctantly. “But what about your job?”

“Apparently it’s already taken care of…but on the bright side it’s an all-expense paid trip. Gurinman promises that I’ll be staying at the best lodging Japan has to offer with all of the comfort and food I can enjoy. Trust me. It’ll be fine. I’ll be fine.”

“Are you sure? Because you seemed pretty rabid…”

“No. Really. I’m good. It’s just that the news of the trip came kind of sudden and then some cheeky chick took the phone from Gurinman. I mean if I could jump through the line to wring her little neck you better believe that I would.”

“So hot,” Shippo mumbled.

“Stop it.” Sho crossed his arms. “In any case, mom, what now?”

Her eyes lowered and shoulders dipped. “I guess I should go pack.”

Sho placed a hand on her arm and smile. “Let’s make sure you don’t take the whole house.”

“Hey! What about me?” Shippo protested.

“Touch anything you’re dead. Am I clear?”

“Crystal.”

About an hour and a half passed when Sho finally dragged three large heavily packed plastic suitcases from Kagome’s room.

“Are you sure that’s everything?” he snorted.

Kagome smiled sweetly. “How about less mouth and more pulling, son?”

“Hn.”

“That’s what I thought.”

When they reached the front room they found their red headed guest on his phone. After bidding the person on the other line bye he bounced excitedly towards them.

“Oh good! You’re both back. I just got some great news! Jay man changed the itinerary,” Shippo grinned. “We don’t have to hop the plane!”

Confusion danced in Kagome’s eyes. “So…no Japan today then?”

“Nope.”

Sho leaned against the wall and grumbled, “Then all of this was for naught.”

Shippo fidgeted with his fingers slightly. “Eh…not necessarily. But with these new orders you’re going to. So um yeah.” He glanced at his watch. “You got about thirty mins to collect your ish. We’ve got a lotta rubber to burn.”

“Now wait just a damn minute,” Kagome blurted. “Where the hell is Gurinman sending me? And why is he including Sho?”

“Yeah…apparently there’s a been some situation back home yadda yadda and now instead me taking you to Japan the Western estate is coming to US.” A few giggles escaped him. “Ah, see what I did there? No? Ok, moving on. Anywho! They’re being relocated to Michigan I think until blippity blah has been dealt with. And I’m to take both of you to the temp home with some acronym escort. I don’t know. Can’t really remember. It all boils down to something security. So, um, yeah.”

Kagome’s hands thrust the air. “What!?”

The doorbell suddenly rang and Sho rushed to go answer it. “Mom? It’s the CIA…”
