She didn’t normally do this, but tonight was special.

It had been almost a full month since she last had a weekend all to herself.  Her job hadn’t called her in to do another double shift. Her mother was out of town visiting her brother in another city. And her son was still currently at work.  With the exception of her and the dog, the house was completely vacant. The rarity of the occasion caused for a treat by the name of Nier.

Little did anyone know she was secretly a Square Enix fan.  She roamed her son’s tidy room until she spotted the game’s box and slipped the small disk into his system’s slot with fervor. While she waited for the game to load, the doorbell suddenly rang.

Brown and white fur scampered towards the front door barking. The time on the cable box showed it was after ten. It was late in the night and she wasn’t expecting any company, though her best friend did have a habit of showing up randomly on a whim.

The doorbell rang again along with a few added knocks this time. The shih-tzu increased the urgency of her barks.

“Coming!” She rushed to the door. Upon turning its knob she came face-to-face with a stranger. He was a small middle-aged man with combed back salt and pepper hair. His black Armani suit made her feel self-conscious of her thrift shop nightwear. And the luxury glasses he was wearing looked like it cost as much as her car. Soft grey eyes pinned her hard, and he let out an annoyed sigh. She felt she was being judged and wished she’d never answered the door.

He pushed the frame further up his nose and spoke with a regal tone. “A thousand apologies for the late intrusion, but does a Miss Kagome Higurashi reside here?”

“Erm…yes?”

The television suddenly roared. “Weiss, you dumbass!”

The man frowned. “Oh dear.”
