A/N: Prompt: Odious

Kaede looked around at the gathered mikos and monks- nineteen in total.  These were the best of the best that Tokyo (and Japan) had to offer.  She knew some of them, had heard about others, and wished that a select few had been excluded from the meeting.  Nonetheless they needed all the help they could get.  She had explained the situation and then informed them about the origins of the predicament.  No one was pleased.  There had been accusations thrown at the Tachibana’s and at her before a level-headed monk had asked who in the room knew what the chest looked like before it was discovered missing.  At that, the discontent quieted and Kaede prepared herself to introduce the new guest.

“Sesshomaru Taisho has been invited to take part in this meeting. I ask you to please rein in yourselves as he is the reason why we know the evil has escaped.”  All the gathered nodded and waited patiently for the man to arrive.  He stepped into the room moments later and of those gathered, one miko paled.  He was an Inuyoukai- Inuyoukai could smell deceit and lies- she had to be careful.

“Dr. Taisho,”  It was the same level-headed monk who spoke first- a man named Miroku- “It is a pleasure to meet you. Can you tell us more about the patient?”  Sesshomaru nodded taking a seat next to Kaede.  He may not have wanted to take the seat but things were volatile as it was; it was best that he caved into something at the moment.

“Kagome Higurashi is a shrine maiden.  Her family sent her to me because they feared her words about “being possessed” were a mental disorder.”

“That’s stupid!”  Kikyo huffed out.  “Doesn’t she know how to purify demons?  And what kind of Higurashi is she?  Aren’t they supposed to be great mikos?”  Some of the others gathered seemed to take Kaede’s words into consideration but anything they were going to say was cut off by the blatant youki they felt.

“Believe me, if my patient had been able to eradicate the demon herself I wouldn’t be here.  I’d like to remind you that this demon was so powerful that he couldn’t be killed and was only sealed?”

Miroku quickly acted.  “Of course! I’m sorry, I assume miko Kikyo here forgot how difficult it is to do anything when someone powerful is in control of your mind.” He shot Kikyo a glare and turned to Sesshomaru again.  “What do you suggest we do?”

“How soon can you all assemble?”

“Two weeks?”  Miroku suggested hopefully wondering how he had come to be the negotiator in this case.

Sesshomaru made a face.  “No, we meet in two days- at my estate.  There are acres of forest surrounding the area.  No harm will come to civilians.”  Kaede opened her mouth to speak, but Sesshomaru beat her to it.  “And I will make sure to evacuate animals.”

Kaede nodded and stood.  “Well then, this meeting is adjourned.  I would like to invite all who wish to take part in the exorcism to stay.  The others are free to return to their duties.”  The monks and mikos discussed what to do. Finally, seven stood and bowed low to both Kaede and Sesshomaru.

“We apologize for the inconvenience.”  The leader began.  “We feel that our presence would only hinder the cause you are fighting for and that our duty is best served elsewhere.”  Kaede gave them a nod dismissing them from the room.  Well, that left twelve- a sizable portion if she had to say so herself.

“Mr. Taisho,” she addressed, “what will you do now?”

“I head to my estate with Higurashi.  The rest of you will join me later.”

     "And then?"

"Once we are ready, I attack and Kaede along wiht the rest of you will seal the demon once again."  Miroku nodded but thoguht abou it.

"Are you sure about this?"  He asked softly.

"Yes, any more questions?"  Without waiting for a response Sesshomaru headed out.  He had to leave soon.

When Sesshomaru arrived at his house he felt the pulsating aura and knew immediately what it was.  Kagome he thought running up the stairs to her room.  He opened the door and barely reacted fast enough to catch the girl.  Naraku must have known he was up to something and had been trying to get out.

”Naraku!” He hissed thinking on the plan he had made earlier.  It was odious but it was what had to be done unfortunately.  “We need to talk.”  The girl in his arms stilled her movements and looked up at him in curiosity.  It wasn’t her though that was thinking things through at the moment.

When Sesshomaru realized he had the demon’s attention he spoke.  “I want to help you.”  The demon had no aura and as a result he had to rely on his host’s senses.  Thankful for the reduced smelling power of humans Sesshomaru continued.  “I have a plan.  I don’t know what you want but I can help.  I am the ruler of the Western Lands still.  My domain has always existed and will continue to exist.  I can ally with you and give you the army and the wealth you need.”

“And how do I know that you are to be trusted?”  Naraku asked.  The deal was beautiful and if he played his cards right, Sesshomaru could be his new host.  But it was too good to be true.  Especially after the forced confinement of the past few days.  He thought about it.  If worst came to worst, he could try to change Sesshomaru’s mind.

“Please Naraku- I am the most powerful demon in existence after you.  Together we could be an indomitable force.”  Naraku smirked, the greed of the future position he could have finally winning out.

     “When do we start?”

Inuyasha looked down at the sheet in front of him.  Kikyo, if she hadn’t found out already, was going to be really interested in what he found.  Kagome Higurashi was a miko- not just any miko, but a Higurashi miko.  While there hadn’t been that many powerful mikos in the Higurashi line the line was powerful and most knew better than to mess with a Higurashi.  Which now put him in an odd predicament- a demon going against a Higurashi miko- bad idea if he ever saw one.

“Inuyasha?”  Kikyo asked walking into his office in their shared home.  He turned and raised a brow at her asking her what she wanted.  “The information?”

“Keh.”  Inuyasha turned back to his desk and printed out the sheet of paper that had the information about Kagome.  “She’s a Higurashi miko, nineteen, and has been possessed for three months according to her mother.  Oh- and she’s my half-brother’s patient.”  Kikyo nodded not finding anything new but took the paper from Inuyasha anyways.

“She’s trained as a miko.”  She stated half to herself, half to Inuyasha.  A nod from the hanyou was all she got.  “Does it tell you how powerful she is?”

Inuyasha shook his head.  “Nope, her mom said she was going to training but quit a few months back right around the time she was possessed.”  Kikyo looked over the paper one more time and then sighed.  She might as well start packing and tell Inuyasha the details.

“Tomorrow I set out for your half-brothers estate.  That is where me and the eleven other monks and mikos have agreed to gather to see this through.  I would like you to come as well.”

“Just where the hell would I stay?  Sesshomaru hates my guts remember?”  Kikyo glanced at him as she made her way out the door and he followed.

“Just camp out nearby Inuyasha. I hate to ask this of you but I know that when the time comes Sesshomaru’s barrier will drop once the battle starts.  He can’t risk it.  Enter then and stop her.”  Inuyasha gruffed finding it unfair that Kikyo got to stay in luxury while he stayed out in the woods.  Nonetheless he complied but not before shouting once again at Kikyo.

“Pack tonight and make sure to sleep early.  We leave for Sesshomaru’s place in the morning.”
