After the intense battle with Naraku, a wish needed to be made on the jewel. The Shikon no Tama had to be destroyed by a pure, selfless wish, and who better to make this wish than Kagome? No one would ever be seduced by its sinister temptations ever again, there would be no more hurt and destruction and suffering from this true master of darkness.

When it came time for Kagome to make a wish on the jewel, her mouth wished for the jewel's destruction, but her heart screamed for InuYasha's happiness.

Nothing could be more selfless than that, right?
