Chapter 217 - The Taiyoukai

Sesshoumaru was fighting with his bare hands, as he didn't dare unleash the power of his sword when he didn't know where his companions were. He couldn't risk injuring any of them, especially not his angel. Poison dripped from his claws as he slashed his way through the wall of demons surrounding him, searching for his mate. He had to guess which direction to head, as he had no idea where she was anymore. He couldn't figure out how Naraku had successfully separated them when she had been so close to him moments before.

Suddenly, an area cleared before him as a purifying arrow went whizzing by his head. "Kagome!" he yelled before heading in the direction the arrow had come from. He continued fighting off the lower level demons in his way until finally, he spotted the miko. In an instant, he had her back pressed tightly to his chest, taking care not to impale her on his armor. "I thought I'd lost you," he murmured in her ear.

The demons, taking advantage of his moment of distraction, surged in towards the pair only to be taken out by flying blades sent from above. They looked up just in time to see Kagura flinging more. The wind witch landed before them with a sigh. "The slayer is injured. She needs help," she said. Kagome instantly pulled away from Sesshoumaru. She still carried her bag of supplies, and she was the only one with any real first aid knowledge. She had to go to her friend.

"Help Inuyasha!" she yelled back before stepping into the boat-like feather. Kagura fought her way through the wall of demons with Kagome's help, the miko releasing arrow after arrow, as she flew as quickly as possible to where she last spotted the slayer and the monk.

"Kohaku is still on the attack," she informed Kagome, flying overhead for a moment so the miko could appraise the situation.

"Let me down right behind them," Kagome instructed, and Kagura nodded her agreement. In moments, Kagome was beside the barrier, ducking to avoid the young slayer boy's next throw of his weapon. "Drop the barrier, Miroku!" the miko yelled, and the monk did so, allowing her in and Kirara out. The fire cat was eager to defend her mistress and distract Kohaku from those trying to help her.

Kirara took flight, drawing Kohaku's attention to herself as she swooped down at him, in between catching demons out of mid air and biting through them viciously. Kagome knelt beside her friend and began digging through her bag while Miroku raised the barrier once again. She moved the monk's hand from Sango's wound to replace it with a fistful of gauze that would better slow the bleeding.

Sesshoumaru cursed the loss of Kagome. He was supposed to be protecting her, and yet she ran off before he could stop her. Deciding to do as she asked, he moved towards the headman's hut, knowing that Inuyasha had headed directly for Naraku.
