Kagome ran away from the palace after a quick change of clothing when Sesshomaru left. She ran without direction in mind. All she could think about was her anger and pain.

It was almost sunset, and the glow of the sky seemed to set everything on fire. Without meaning to, she found herself on her family’s graves.

She fell on her knees on the ground and cried as she remembers all that she had to endure. Souta died of illness six months after their family died. She’s all alone, full of grief and hatred. So she trained to become a better miko with thoughts of killing the monster who killed her family. Unfortunately, her plans did not go well.

She’d been stuck in his palace for months since the new moon. She’d been stuck between revenge and affection. She doesn’t know how she could be this soft to Sesshomaru. Perhaps, she is blinded by his beauty and power.

Or, perhaps, she’s so desperate for a home that she confuses his monstrosity for benevolence.

Kagome sobbed on her mother’s grave. “Mama…I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Mama!”

“Oi. When are you gonna finish crying?” A rough and slightly brash voice spoke behind her.

Kagome turned her head back, her puffy and swollen eyes widening at the sight of a hanyou.

She frowned, hiccupping from all the crying. “W-who are y-you?”

The hanyou, with dog-like ears and red robe, took a step towards her. “I was sleeping on that tree when you came wailing like a dying animal.” He grimaced, his golden-eyes showing his irritation.

“Have I met you before?” She asked curiously as she slowly stand up to fully face him. She knows she had seen him somewhere but she couldn’t remember where or when.

His eyes narrowed before he turned away with a huff. “You do look like her.”

Kagome frowned in confusion and asked, “What does that mean? Who is...her?”

Suddenly, her mind seemed to recollect some memories from the past and it replayed before her eyes.

With blurred vision, she registered angry golden eyes full of greed, long silver mane, and the color of red.

"Who are you?" The youkai snarled, gripping her arms harder, his claws digging into her delicate flesh, drawing blood.

"Damn you!" She muttered, coughing and choking. "W-where is m-my family?"

"Dead. I've killed them," he replied, uncaring.

"Y-you thought w-we are I-Izayoi's d-descen-ddants?" She asked, too weak to make any conviction. "Fool."

"Are you not? You resemble her…Kikyou…" He growled the last name. "Why…?"

He trailed off while she is slipping away.

"I'd…never…forgive…you…youkai," she whispered.

Kagome gasped in shock at what she remembered and she almost stumbled down. “Th-that w-was yo-you?” She stuttered. “It wasn’t Sesshomaru?”

The hanyou’s eyes whipped to her and it became full of loathing. He shook. “How did you know my asshole of a brother?” He snarled.

Kagome, still in shock, slowly lifted her wide eyes to meet his hateful gaze. “You’re his brother? You must be Inuyasha! Izayoi’s son with the Inu no Taisho! The princess that caused the curse…”

Inuyasha’s eyes hardened and his hand tightened his hold on the sword strapped at his waist. “So what?” He asked harshly.

“You were looking for your mother’s descendants that night…” She whispered thoughtfully.

“I was.” He replied.

“Why?” Kagome looked at him with a confused frown.

“To kill them.” He said without remorse.

Kagome’s spine stiffened. “You…murdered my family.” She accused exhaustedly. “Yet, you do not seem to regret it.”

“Why would I? I showed you mercy, woman. Do you want the curse to go on forever? Do you want all the humans to suffer? I just wanted to break the curse placed upon my mother’s descendants by that asshole’s mother. My youkai heritage took charge that night but I managed to control my beast so you survived, you should be thankful.” He said harshly, crossing his arms under his chest.

“Thankful?” Kagome asked, her question almost a scream. “Damn you. You murdered my family, ransacked my village, and almost choked me to death. Now, you want me to be thankful?”

“Well, I thought you were her.” He argued and screamed back.

“Who is her?” Kagome asked in gritted teeth.

Kikyou. She…she’s Midoriko’s descendant. She…betrayed me.”

“Is that why you tried to kill me?”

He turned away from her but his anger-filled aura is unbelievably heavy for her reiki to accept.

“If I am her reincarnation and she belongs to Midoriko’s family, wouldn’t that make me…” Kagome eyes widened and lifted her appalled face to Inuyasha. “I am not Izayoi’s descendant.”

Inuyasha stalked forward and pinned her with hateful eyes. “You knew my brother.”

Kagome stepped backwards, her hands trembling violently, “Your answers lead to more questions…I am confused.”

“Let me end your confusion for you then. Let me end your miserable life.” He stalked towards her, his claws ready to attack her.

“Why do you hate me so much?” She asked angrily, her tears falling freely. “Why does the world hate me like this? What did I do to warrant such suffering?”

“Knowing my brother is sin enough. Keh. Well, you betrayed me in your past life.”

“Betrayed you how?”

“You must die. You must suffer. You are nothing now. You have no one. I hope you can feel the crushing weight in your heart the way I always did.” He released his sword from its sheath, and Kagome sprinted to a run.

He caught her by the waist and leaned down to whisper beside her ear. “Kikyou, you almost had me killed by my brother because of your devious scheming. I want you gone from this world!”

Kagome struggled to escape and screamed, “I am not Kikyou. I am Kagome!” She raised her elbow and strike at his stomach.

He released her and hissed, “Bitch.”

“Bastard. An abomination who only knows about hate.” She spat back, even though her words hit her as well. After her family’s death, all she ever knew was hate.

Inuyasha rushed at her side and grabbed her by the throat. “Stop calling me an abomination!” He snarled.

Kagome choked and tried to catch her breath. “Your brother is better than you, foolish hanyou.”

“Damn you, shut your mouth!” He screamed at her face, his golden eyes turning red and his youki turning evil. There is no doubt in Kagome’s mind that he really is the one who killed her family. She remembered his evil aura and his cruel voice.

Kagome flared her reiki and threw him back. She gathered her reiki at her hands but before she could strike him, he had already moved.

He bit her neck with his elongated fangs and stuck her chest with his clawed hands.

Kagome gasped at the blinding pain.

He pulled back and watched as she fell on her knees, soaked in her own blood. “You can have you family back now, woman. Be thankful for my generosity.”

Kagome panted for breath, blood dripping down her chin, and watched him with blurry eyes.

He turned his back on her and started to walk away. But he stopped halfway and turned his head back to look at her. “Oh and if you ever see Kikyou in the afterlife, send her my regards. Wait, you are her reincarnation. Wouldn’t that make you and her one? Never mind. Just rot in hell.”

With that, he vanished.

Kagome fell forward, grasping at her chest, and slowly turned her head at the blackening sky. The rain started dripping, seemingly crying for her.

She bowed down her head and coughed some blood. “Forgive me, Kami-sama. Forgive that hanyou as well. He…I…I think understand his pain. I have suffered but instead of making it better, I harboured hatred. The hate in my heart consumed me for years after my family’s death that I even sought for revenge. Forgive me. Forgive everyone that harboured such loathing in their hearts.”

She fell face first on the now muddy forest floor. The rain soaking her badly but she still forced herself to look at the sky and whispered, “The curse that permitted this land for centuries. Please…use me to take it away…”

Kagome clutched at her chest and laid on her back, and her mind flashed with Sesshomaru’s face. She smiled. “Sesshomaru…don’t let him walk the same path I did…” She sighed, and closed her heavy eyelids.
