The Pink Ribbon by *~*Missy*~*

I can't move forward

Kagome stared with anticipation at the thing in front of her.  It could be described as an innocent object, perfect, and most of all pink.  But looking at this brought tears to her eyes.  It was the pink ribbon that her father had given her just before he had died.  She looked at it in the box every week, she took it out, held it for a few moments and then put it back.  It was that time of the week and she look at this small ribbon with anticipation.  She could feel the tears springing to her eyes.  She missed her father so much, this one thing held all of her memories of her father in it.  It had been so expensive, yet he had bought it just for her.  She had not been able to bring herself to wear it though and it shamed her and was a shame to her father’s memory.  Kagome put it away and went to school.

At school she met her best friend Sesshoumaru, he could clearly tell that something was wrong with Kagome, had been wrong for a long time.  She would not let him close enough to figure out what was wrong.  He knew her father had died when she was younger but she would not speak about it at all.  There had been a few outbursts but they had done nothing to their friendship.  Kagome gave him a kind smile today as they went through their classes and today was the day that Sesshoumaru determined he would find out what was wrong with his good friend.

After school they went outside to sit underneath the large tree that was on the way to both of their houses to relax.  She laid her head on his lap as they sat in the shade in comfortable silence, he found this would be the best time to breach the topic.

“Kagome, you are my best friend and I love you with all my heart, please tell me about your father.”  Sesshoumaru said as he ran his fingers through her hair and felt her tense immediately.

“I do not wish to talk about it Sesshoumaru.”

“Kagome please.”

“I said no!”

“KAGOME!”  Sesshoumaru yelled her name, she winced, Sesshoumaru never yelled.

“My father was an amazing and kind man.  The last thing he did before I died was buy me a ribbon, a ribbon that I haven’t been able to bring myself to wear.”  She admitted sadly.

“How did he die?”

“He was hit by a drunk driver.”

“Will you show me the ribbon Kagome?”  Sesshoumaru asked.  She nodded her head yes and they walked to her house and up to her room.  Mrs. Hirugashi knew the Tashio boy well so she had no problem with this.  Kagome showed him to her room and he sat on her bed as beckoned.  She fished a wooden box out of a secret place in her closet.  It was gorgeously ornate with dark black polished wood and pink cherry blossoms all over it, both on a tree and falling to the ground.  She opened it and showed the ribbon to him.  To her surprise he picked it up and fastened it in her hair.  “You look gorgeous.”  He said with a smile.

“NO!”  She cried distressed for a moment and she put it away carefully.  Sesshoumaru merely frowned.

“Kagome, this ribbon will hold all that your father represented to you and more if you wear it.  It does not need to be kept secret from the world.  It is not what he would want for you and you know that.”  Sesshoumaru said with a kind smile.  “You need to move forwards and as long as this is a secret I do not believe that you will truly be able to move forwards.”  Kagome paused, frowned, and began thinking.  “I will see you tomorrow Kagome.”  Sesshoumaru said as he gave her a kiss on the lips, one that surprised her.  It was chaste and lovely and made her blush.

The next day Kagome showed up at school, Sesshoumaru glimpsed her through the throng of students.  There was shining pink ribbon in her hair and she had looked the happiest he had ever seen her look.  She walked up to him with a smile and placed a kiss on his lips and backed away blushing shyly.

“Thank you.”
