Hideo looked at his cousin thoughtfully before pointing out, "You seem to care about the miko."

"I don't." Sesshomaru answered in a matter-of-fact tone of voice.

"Are you certain?" Hideo asked.

Sesshomaru fixed him with a sneering look and mockingly asked, "Why, Hideo? Do you think this Sesshomaru is...in love?"

"No. Not really." Hideo shook his head. "Some kind of affection, perhaps. It's still too early for it to be love."

"I am not as impetuous as you as to be led by emotions alone. She's here because she's useful. She's a means for my plans." Sesshomaru replied, leaning back on his chair, the posture made him look even more indifferent.

"You just...seem protective of her." Hideo said hesitantly.

"I have to be or she would be dead by now and she's only useful alive." Sesshomaru explained, resisting the urge to roll his eyes.

"But-"

"Stop this foolishness. The miko has to establish her authority in order to be feared and I need to help her with this. Everything that have and shall transpire is for my benefit. Not for any other reason." Sesshomaru gazed at him, seemingly challenging him to say more.

But Hideo just shook his head and smiled. "Should I repeat what you just said? 'Not for any other reason.'" Hideo's smile turned mischievous. "I hope you can stand firmly with that until the end."
