Rational Thinking

A/N: I'm back and boy does it feel good! And I wasn't lazy while I was gone; I've written a chapter for all the prompts, thus this update is 1 of 6. Please, please review- I really want to know what you think!

Prompt: Wind (Week 30)

Word Count: 384

'Oh thank Kami, I've found it.' The young woman let out a gusty sigh, immeasurably relieved that she had found the caves before nightfall. Unfortunately, the rain hadn't stopped during her search -in spite of her wishes- and a rather strong breeze had picked up, lashing water droplets straight into her eyes.

Kagome quickly scaled the rocks leading up to the closest cave. She was quite surprised at how small the jagged entrance was; it couldn't be any higher than her waist and was only a little wider than herself. Crouching down, the miko peered in, half expecting to come face-to-face with a wild animal.

In the dim light of the sunset, she could make out an area similar in size to her bedroom in the future, and it appeared to be empty. Eager to escape the wrath of the elements, Kagome knelt and removed her pack and weapons, chucking them inside the cave before crawling in after them.

She stood tentatively, wary of banging her head on an unexpectedly low ceiling. When she met no resistance, a tired smile etched itself onto her features.

"Things might actually be looking up." Muttered the time-traveller, only to groan when her stomach clenched in hunger. "Spoke too soon. Okay, first I need to ascertain whether or not my blankets are soaked; secondly, I need to rest and then in the morning I can search for firewood and food."

Kagome spoke to the bare space- speaking aloud helped her think- something which Inuyasha had always found hilarious. It was practically pitch-black in the cave now that the sun had set. Delving into her bag, the woman was pleased to note that the waterproof leather had done its job- her blankets were bone dry.

'Pity there isn't any food in here... if the worst comes to worst, I could always eat my toothpaste.' She frowned whilst laying out her blankets and removing her outer kimono, quickly shoving that thought into her mental bin.

Kagome couldn't help the small sob that escaped her as she settled down for the night, but she resolutely held back her tears; knowing that if she fell into a pit of despair, there would be no chance of coming back out. Thus she turned her rational thinking towards her largest problem; Sesshoumaru.
