"I'm glad that you're feeling okay; it would've been awful if you weren't."

Sesshoumaru gave Kagome a slow nod. Truth be told, he wasn't feeling 'okay'. Rumours spread like wildfire, and the tale of the fearsome Lord of the West being brought to his knees by a mere sweet was sure to cause a scandal. But he was even more disgusted that this time it was the truth.

"Honestly, what were you thinking? I warned you that it was poisonous, and what do you do? Eat a massive piece! If I didn't know any better I would think that you had a death wish!"

The daiyoukai ignored her rant, too preoccupied with his own thoughts.

She had warned him, and he had recklessly brushed it off, just to spite her. In that moment, his jealousy of the boar had harmed him. It could have killed him; if he'd eaten more of the 'chocolate', according to the miko.

Not only had he impeded Kagome from aiding him, Sesshoumaru had failed to recognise a latent threat to his person. He wasn't sure that he would ever feel 'okay' again.

Unbidden, he suddenly wondered how the miko had known to warn him.

"How?"

Kagome broke off her scolding, surprised. "Sorry?"

Sesshoumaru turned his magnetic stare on her, and the young woman began to feel nervous.

"How did you know the gift was not edible?"

Mentally, Kagome was freaking out. She couldn't tell the truth otherwise he would work out that she was from the future! There was only one thing for it.

She lied.

"I acquired some and shared it with Inuyasha who had a similar reaction to you. Humans are generally not allergic to chocolate, so I worked out that it must be harmful to the inu in him."

She flashed him a brilliant smile, but inside she was punching herself.

The daiyoukai stared at her, stunned. He could smell her deceit as clearly as he could see her smile. He looked out towards the moon. The pain he felt at her untruth made him hope that she had lied for his sake.
