No, no, no, no, no! This could not be happening! How was this happening! And why!? The Kami didn’t really make karma come around that quickly did they?

Rushing frantically around her apartment whilst trying to be as quiet as the long deceased was more difficult than movies suggested. As she whizzed past Sesshoumaru, his inquiring glance followed her into her bedroom where she collided with her wardrobe. Quickly sliding into her pajamas, the young woman vaulted into bed just as the doorbell rang.

Kagome had decided that working on the weekend without pay for her ungrateful boss wasn’t on, so she had feigned sickness and remained at home. Of course, that annoying twit would come to see if she was actually sick! Sango had managed to call her a few minutes ago to warn her that the dreaded dragon was on the warpath, and that had led to the miko’s silent and clumsy acrobatics around her abode.

As the inuyoukai answered the door – something he had actually come to enjoy, due to a miracle known as “takeaway” – Kagome let out a sigh. Hopefully her resident demon would shoo the woman away and all would be well again.

Voices floated to her from the entryway and the female began to wonder what was taking Sesshoumaru so long to slam the door shut in her bosses’ face.

“…Oh dear. That is awful. I do hope that Kagome-san recovers quickly and will be able to come back into work again soon. Please give her my well-wishes.”

“Of course. I am sure she will be happy to hear them.”

The sound of the door closing was closely followed by measured footsteps and the dai appeared in the doorway, a frown on his perfect face.

“Kagome; why are you lying to your boss?”

Mumbling something about payback for being a slave driver, Kagome returned with,

“What did you tell her?”

Sesshoumaru’s wide grin did nothing to alleviate her worries.

“Why my dear Kagome, I just informed her that you had a nasty case of worms and that you couldn’t possibly work for quite some time.”

Mortification, disbelief and anger washed over the miko like ocean surf, momentarily sweeping her away before her feet came back into contact with reality.

“Sesshoumaru! Why would you tell her such a gross lie?!”

The grin widened.

“This Sesshoumaru was doing nothing more than assisting you with your deception… Your grandfather did a similar thing I believe?”

With a groan, Kagome fell back onto her pillows. What was wrong with the men in her life?
