Burn

Prompt: Candent - Heated to whiteness, glowing with heat.

Word Count: 222

“Do you want to hurt yourself?”

Sesshoumaru shook his head sheepishly.

“Good! So stay away from the stove!”

Kagome sighed as her lover skulked away with a childish pout on his handsome face. It was his own fault that she was cross with him; he should understand that she was only raising her voice so that he would understand how dangerous the stove was.

Sighing softly, the young woman placed the wooden spoon she had been using to stir her homemade caramel and donned an oven glove. The pot, filled halfway with the delectable substance that had attracted the sharp-nosed inuyoukai, was practically glowing with heat. Grasping the handle firmly, Kagome turned slowly and began to pour the sugary substance over her plain (and just popped) corn, relishing in the crackling noises being emitted.

Her task finally done, she turned back to place the still hot pot in the sink. No sooner than her back was turned, a pained yelp came from behind her.

Swiveling, Kagome was unsurprised to see Sesshoumaru standing with a finger in his mouth, having clearly just burned himself on the boiling caramel in his impatience. Seriously, she’d told the guy that it was dangerous, but had he listened? No! So this was were she got to do that amazingly irritating but satisfying phrase:

“I told you so.”
