They walked side by side, Kagome dancing over the manholes and leaping over the cracks in the pavement, giggling as she did so. The demon watched her, amused at her amusement at her own childish antics. They continued their conversation, and the miko glanced up occasionally at her companion, but quickly returned her gaze to the ground, trying not to break the task she had undertaken.
With a snort, the young woman laughed gleefully, almost in hysterics at their humorous topic. Who knew that this stoic inuyoukai could be so funny? Raising her eyes to Sesshoumaru’s face, his expression stunned her into silence in the bright midday sun.
He was smiling. It wasn’t a particularly large one and wasn’t a grin or even his usual smirk, but it was an actual real, warm smile. In that moment, Kagome felt like nothing could break her away from him, her game forgotten as they moved down the pavement as if in a dream.
The lamppost she walked into however, clearly hadn’t felt the same way.
