"You did what?!" came a chorus of four voices at Kagome's proclamation.
"I challenged Tokyo's DK." she repeated calmly.
"That's what I thought you said," came Kikyo's resigned reply.
Sesshomaru Taisho, Taisho Sesshomaru, any way you put it the name bespoke power. Power, charisma, and perfection... Killing Perfection.
"He's known as the 'Killing Perfection' for a reason, you know." interjected Sango.
"No kidding..." remarked Ayame, with a shake of her head.
"He's yet to lose a race, he beat his own father for Kami's sake." Sango continued.
"I know, but its time we go back to Tokyo. I just simplified things." Kagome said.
"Simplified, as if..." Kikyo quipped.
"We've been in the States the whole summer." Kagome continued.
"He wants to meet the team before he accepts." Kagome finished.
"And what of 'Kitana'?" Ayame interrupted.
"She graduates next Friday." she went on.
"His Secondary assured me he was flexible in regards to timeline." Kagome put in.
She turned to her American friend, who had thus far been silent.
-HJkGT-
"Kitana, you are my Secondary and key to the team," Kagome began.
"I want you with us when we meet them." she continued.
Though she went by the name "Kitana", it was obvious the girl was part Native American. The chosen name was a way to leave her past behind.
"Tokyo, Youkai, and racing... What more could a rebel ask for?" Kitana thought.
Her eyes went sharp as a blade. Her lip lifted in a smirk.
"Let's see how big and bad the Alpha Dog really is!" Kitana shouted.
A resounding and unanimous "Hai!" was heard.
Kagome put in the call the others circled around her.
"Taisho Masaru, Higurashi Kagome,” Kagome began.
“We accept his terms, but a member of my team graduates college Friday. So we will have to leave Friday evening.” She finished.
Kagome turned to her friends, “He's put me on hold, he's speaking to his cousin.” Kagome whispered.
“Taisho-san, we will meet with you” Kagome said.
“We will leave Friday evening. Hai, I know, but we can get it done though” Kagome continued.
She listened as Sesshomaru proposed something that nearly made her faint. She took the phone away from her ear as though entranced.
“Higurashi-san...” The smooth baritone voice gave all five women goosebumps.
“Higurashi-san!” Sesshomaru's raised voice brought Kagome from her reverie.
Bringing the phone back to her ear she spoke again.
“Taisho-san, are you certain?” Kagome asked.
“Hai, I understand,” Kagome began.
“My Secondary goes by an alias.” She went on.
“Okay, Domo arigato, Taisho-san. Sayonara, Taisho-san.” Kagome finished.
Kagome hung up the phone still dumb-struck by what she had heard.
“Well?” the four asked as Kagome turned to them.
“You won't believe this,” She began.
“He's giving us two weeks to get things in order. And... he's paying for first-class airfare.” Kagome finished.
“Nani!” came shocked replies to that statement.
“He said if I'm brave enough to challenge him my team must be worth it." Kagome continued.
“And we won't disappoint him will we, ladies?” came Ayame's question.
“Iie, we shall not.” Kikyo said.
“And what of me?” Kitana asked.
“I quote, Tis' of no consequence.” Kagome said.
“He actually used the word, Tis'?” Sango asked, incredulous.
“Yeah, I couldn't believe it, myself.” Kagome replied.
The four turned to Kitana then burst out laughing.
“Nani?” Kitana questioned.
“I knew I couldn't be the only one who used 'Old World' speech.” she continued, defensively.
“Hai, But he's a Youkai & the son of a Tentei.” Kagome said.
“Your point?” Kitana asked, shaking her head.
“Anyway, now I can show you our new uniforms.” Kitana went on.
Leaving her friends in the living room, Kitana headed to the spare room that she used as a sewing room.
“We've never had actual uniforms before.” Ayame said.
“I wonder what she's designed...” Kikyo mused.
Kitana came back carrying four hangers, the ensembles overlaid with protective plastic. She had gifts in store, but she would show these first.
“For you, Kagome, black leather pants and a silver silk kimono top stitched with pink Sakura blossoms” Kitana began.
“For Ayame, a white silk chignon dress with slits up to mid-thigh” “Stitched with silver iris blooms and of course the prerequisite for your tail” She said.
As she spoke Kitana handed each woman her uniform.
“For Kikyo, a black velvet skirt with purple velvet at the hem and a white leather daisy-duke top” Kitana went on.
She had done her best to create outfits that her friends would not only love, but that reflected each of their unique personalities.
“And for Sango, I have a combo ensemble,” She continued.
“A backless red leather halter top and a black leather ankle-length skirt. It has thigh-high slits and you attach the halter to the skirt with buckles” Kitana finished, as she handed the last two outfits over.
“My dear Kitana you are mad... Because I am so not wearing that!” Sango replied.
“You are already a man-eater,” Kitana began.
“You might as well look like one” She finished.
Kitana received nods of assent from Kagome, Ayame, and Kikyo.
“Traitors” Sango whispered, with a mock glare at her friends.
“Just try it on, Onegai?” Kitana asked.
After much pleading and goading from her heart sisters, Sango reluctantly complied. Coming back from the guest bathroom dressed in the ensemble. Her midriff was bare and Sango couldn't erase the smirk on her face.
“Arigato, Kitana, I love it” Sango gushed, doing a turn for her friends.
“I know I'm brilliant” Kitana said, with a flourished bow.
Then she disappeared back down the hall to her sewing room, again.
“What's with her?” Ayame asked.
“One can never tell.” Kikyo replied.
The other girls decided to try on their stuff too. And so, took turns in the guest bathroom, much as Sango had done. Before ranging themselves around the living room, again.
“Now, I know you love the uniforms, but I have a surprise.” Kitana said as she came back down the hall.
She was dressed in an ocean blue bell-sleeved peasant blouse shot through with silver. Black leather pants and her favored black leather, zippered, lace-up wedge heel boots.
The piece de resistance was clasped about Kitana's shoulders. The clasp was a silver brooch shaped like a waxing crescent moon inlaid with moonstone in the shape of angel wings. She turned her back to them, presenting her cloak. Black velvet, waist-length, stitched with the kanji for Moonlight Angels and her alias, “Kitana” stitched in English just beneath it, all in ocean blue. And inlaid with ocean blue satin.
“Kitana, its lovely” Sango said, stroking a hand over the velvet.
“I made one for each of us” Kitana said.
The cloaks were the same except for length, stitchery, and satin inlay color.
For Kagome it was Sakura blossom pink, for Ayame iris white, for Kikyo dark purple, and for Sango it was siren red.
“I had to use individual measurements to make sure the cloaks stopped at your waists” So saying, Kitana presented her friends with their cloaks and matching brooches.
When each girl wore hers they turned in unison, forming a circle.
Kagome took up the call, “Moonlight Angels, sisters of the heart, united spirit to spirit...”
“To victory.” she said, placing her hand at the center. Each woman followed suit.
“To victory.” they intoned together.
All too soon Friday came. They had a week left to deal with details. The door bell rang as they readied for their respective days. Kitana went to answer it, opening the door, she saw it was a messenger.
“Tickets for the Moonlight Angels,” he began.
“Are you Kitana?” He asked.
“Yes.” Kitana replied.
Her tone was speculative. Wondering why the man asked.
“I've also been instructed to give you this, Miss.” he said, handing her a medium-sized manila envelope.
Her alias was elegantly penned across it.
“Strange...” Kitana thought, after tipping the messenger and closing the door.
“Sango Tareda, Ayame Yamamoto” Sango came in the living room from the kitchen.
“What's that?” Sango asked, motioning to the manila envelope as she took the envelope with her ticket.
“I have no clue” Kitana replied.
Shrugging her shoulders, Sango headed back to the kitchen to finish her breakfast. Ayame came in from outside as Kikyo and Kagome came downstairs.
“Your tickets, girls” Kitana said.
Handing them over she headed upstairs. Closing her bedroom door, she opened the envelope. Shock alone, could not describe Kitana's feelings as legal identification fell to the floor.
Identification that dubbed her, Kitana Tsukino.
“What, how...? Who did this?” Kitana asked herself.
She was utterly flabbergasted. Everything she needed to begin her life anew was scattered at her feet. Documents that took weeks to come in once filed and paid for. It was all there, for now she gathered the documents and put them in her bedside table drawer. She had half a day of classes before the ceremony. Grabbing her messenger bag and purse, she opened the door and ran back downstairs.
Grabbing her keys, she gave a back-handed wave saying, “Sayonara”.

She went to her truck, unlocking the door, and inserting the key she gunned the engine. “If Today Was Your Last Day” blared from the speakers as she headed for her last day at the Art Institute of Dallas. Fortune it seemed smiled on this Moonlight Angel. Later, the day seemed to be dragging on...
And Kitana grew edgier by the hour. Meanwhile, Kikyo & Kagome went to their respective secretarial jobs. Sango went to her job as a Karate instructor. And Ayame got to work on her new novel. Working as a writer allowed her to keep a low profile. Since most Americans knew nothing about Youkai. At last it was time for the ceremony. Kitana went up on stage to get her degree. She turned to the crowd, spotting her sisters of the heart. She held the coveted certificate above her head.
She ran off stage straight to her friends.
“Top five percent” Kitana said.
“Youkou owatta, nee-chan” they replied.
Her friends knew why she had been so determined. To silence forever the voice of the one who said she was useless. That she would never accomplish anything, that she would never do anything with her life... Her father. Vindication was at long last hers. And how sweet the victory tasted.
“A girls night out, Iie?” Kitana asked.
She received nods of assent.
“Sango, you and Ayame can ride with me in the Chevie” Kitana went on.
The girls piled in the Chevrolet and Camaro, respectively.
“So, have you found somebody to buy the truck?” Ayame asked.
“Yes, but with the detailing I've had done, I don't really want to sell it” Kitana said.
The truck was a long bed, two-tone with flames. Silver faded to rich purple. And silver-edged lilac flames extending over the doors and mid-way down the sides of the bed.
“Didn't you say the money you got would serve as seed money for your fashion line?” Sango asked.
“Yes, this truck is my baby though.” Kitana said.
“How much were you asking for, again?” Ayame asked.
“Twelve thousand” Kitana replied.
“Maybe you won't have to sell it There might be another way” Sango said.
How right she would turn out to be... Kikyo and Kagome were ahead of their friends in Kikyo's Camaro.
“Did you get them, cousin?” Kikyo asked.
“They're at the top of my closet” Kagome replied.
“And Sango and Ayame?” Kikyo continued.
“Secreted in Ayame's closet” Kagome said.
Kikyo and Kagome arrived home first. Followed shortly by Kitana, Ayame, and Sango. The phone was ringing when the girls got inside. Kagome dove for it before voice mail picked up.
-HJkGT-
”Moshi, moshi, Higurashi speaking,” Kagome said.
“Taisho-san...” She continued.
The others ranged around her as Kagome listened to the voice on the other end.
“I see, but you've done so much already...” Kagome began.
“Alright, Sayonara, Taisho-san.” Kagome finished.
“What now?” Sango asked, after Kagome had hung up the phone.
“He's paying to have our cars shipped...” Kagome replied.
“He's more invested in this, in us, than he should be” Kitana said.
“Does anyone else feel like Fate is toying with us...?” Ayame asked.
