More Than An Alliance by Dorkfishe97

Scarlet

Looking across the hut, Sesshomaru noticed that Sango shared his sense of discomfort. Even though most of his allies were human, Sesshomaru knew they didn't need his heightened hearing to pick up on every word exchanged between the couple outside the hut. As a particularly loud sob from Kagome drifted into the dwelling, Shippou bristled, and Sesshomaru felt the tension coming off the young kit. Even the monk, whom Sesshomaru had come to like the best for his rationality, seemed unable to contain his anger as he listened to the crying and screaming of the young miko.

"You bastard! I can't believe you did this to me! I can't believe you did this to me again! I'm giving everything up for you: college, dating, my family, my friends, my future, and my freaking life! I'm sacrificing everything so that you can have this stupid jewel and that you can have your stupid happy ending! I get that you love Kikyo—I accepted that a long time ago, but I will not accept you walking all over me and treating me like some sort of shadow!

"Just because people say that I'm her reincarnation, which I'm really starting to doubt, doesn't mean that I am a lesser being! You can't just use me as a shard detector and then throw me away for Kikyo whenever she is near! It's not fair to me! Just because you don't love me doesn't mean I've stopped loving you, so get that through your thick head!" Kagome screamed with gusto.

"I don't see why it's such a big deal! All I did was go off to meet her in the woods. It's none of your business anyway," InuYasha grunted in reply.

"I don't really care what you do with Kikyo in your free time; I'm just mad that you are fine to walk all over me as long as you get what you want! I can't believe you would do this to me!" the miko screamed in rage, her tears drying up as rage replaced sadness.

"The sun barely set an hour ago. We can pack up and leave early tomorrow if that's gonna put a lid on your gripping."

Silence greeted everyone in the hut, and Sesshomaru mentally cringed for his idiot of a half-brother, knowing what would come next.

"That's the point," Kagome started with a deadly calm. "Yesterday when we got to the village, you told me I couldn't go see my family since we were leaving bright and early today."

Sesshomaru saw the exact moment InuYasha finally understood Kagome's anger. Clearly, the idiot knew that he deserved whatever was coming next, seeing as he started backing through the doorway.

"Do you know how long has passed since I saw my family? Over two months, InuYasha. Today I could have spent the day with my family. I know that I finished high school going into this summer, but if you have the right to visit your Kikyo, I can go visit my mother!" Kagome finished with a scream as she fully entered the Kaede's little home.

Everyone silently watched as Kagome marched over to her bag and started shoving all of her belongings inside. InuYasha only fully comprehended her actions as Kagome slung her bag over her shoulder and marched to the door.

"Where the hell do ya think you're going?" he screamed as she hovered in the doorway, the fading twilight outlining her form as she looked over her shoulder.

"I'm going to pay my family a visit, and then I'm spending tomorrow catching up with my mom. Everyone else can take this time to rest."

"No! We've already wasted enough time. You shoulda been doing that when I was gone. Not my fault you're an idiot," InuYasha grumbled.

For a moment Kagome saw scarlet as she clenched her fists and resisted the urge to throttle the infuriating hanyou. Then she smiled sweetly at her friend and batted her eyelashes.

"InuYasha," she said, her words practically dripping with honey. "Sit boy!"

She admired the view as InuYasha flew to the floor of the hut, and then Kagome turned, strutting towards the well. Sesshomaru heard her twinkling laugh as her form slinked from view and disappeared into the night.
