Chapter 1: Welcome To The Future

It’s been a few months since the well closed and they had defeated Naraku. Kagome had taken over caring for the shrine since her grandfather passed away from old age and her mother passed from breast cancer. Now she was raising Souta on her own. Souta was a junior in high school, so he didn’t have to stick around long. He told her every day how much he hated her for choosing Inuyasha over her own family, and no matter how many times she tried to explain to him that she was just trying to right a wrong that she had brought on to that era, he just said it was a well thought out excuse. Kagome herself had taken to training herself so that she could stay strong. She had discovered that there were demons in her time; they just wore special jewelry to hide their demonic features.

Kagome was doing some cleaning when there was a bright light and she heard an oomph from outside. She set the dishes down, dried her hands and went outside. There, in the middle of the grounds laid and an unconscious Sesshomaru. She ran over to him. He didn’t look to well, so she felt his forehead. It was very warm. She didn’t think that demons could get sick. She ran inside and called for Souta to come down and help her. He protested but complied in the end. They brought Sesshomaru inside and put him on the couch, but not before she took his armor off. She definitely had a lot of questions for him when he woke up. Kagome thanked Souta, and he just shrugged and went back to his room. Kagome went into the kitchen and got a washcloth and got it wet with cold water and put it on Sesshomaru’s forehead. He stirred as soon as it was in contact with his forehead. He shot into an upright position and his hand shot out and had her neck in choke hold. “Calm…yourself…Sesshomaru.”

Sesshomaru finally recognized the onna that he had thought was a threat. Then it all came back to him. The battle that he was fighting, the dark priestess that came out and started chanting and when she had raised her arms to the sky, he blacked out. “Miko, what is going on?”

Kagome balked. “I was hoping that you would have that answer. Now, if you will excuse me, I will just go back to doing what I was doing before you popped out of nowhere. Glad to see you’re not hurt!” Kagome walked back into the kitchen and picked up where she left off on the dishes.

Sesshomaru looked around the room. There were many things that he had not seen before. He heard footsteps and looked over to see a teenage boy that looked like the miko come down the stairs. At first glance, he assumes the boy is the miko’s son, but when he sniffed the air, he found that the boy was actually her younger brother. Interesting. He watched as the boy came to stand in front of him. Then what came out of the boy’s mouth surprised him.

“Do you like Kagome?”

Sesshomaru shook his head no. He did not have any type of relationship with the miko.

“Good, then do me a favor. Kill her. I would like it better if she just died. Grandpa’s gone. Mom’s gone. Dad’s gone. She was always the favorite anyways.”

Kagome heard it all. She had just finished the dishes. Tears streaked her face. She walked to the door to the living room. “Please, Souta, that is enough.”

Souta turned an angry glare on her. “If you hadn’t left then none of this would have happened!”

“Souta, I cannot changed what happened. The kami’s decided it was their time. Dad died in a car accident. Grandpa died of old age. Mom died of cancer. There is no cure for cancer, Souta. Even if I were here, it still would have happened. You know this.” Souta came at her and she closed her eyes, which were still leaking tears, and waited for it to come. When it didn’t she opened her eyes to see that Sesshomaru had pinned him to the ground. She knew she shouldn’t but she knew she had to. Kagome walked over to Sesshomaru and put a hand on his shoulder. “Don’t. He is all that I have left.” The last part was spoken in a whisper. She dropped her hand and went outside.

“You should count your blessings, Souta. Kagome is not an easy character to come by.” Sesshomaru let Souta go and went after her. He found her sitting on a bench under the goshinboku.
