Another Happy Ending

The years had caught up to them and as much as the demon tried, Sesshomaru couldn't find a way to keep Kagome young. Even though the mating mark kept Kagome from aging as quickly, the years had flown by so much faster than they had ever thought possible.

Now Kagome's time was nearing its end. As much as it hurt, Sesshomaru knew that she was not going to make a miraculous recovery this time. Her body was weak with age and this illness was not merciful.

"Sesshomaru, my time has come. I don't want you to let my death keep you from being happy. As much as it hurt both of us, we knew that a life together wasn't going to be easy, especially for you, Love. I'm sorry that I have to leave you so soon."

Even in her last moments, Kagome was trying to make him feel better. This is why he had fallen in love with her when she still stood at InuYasha's side. Sometimes it seemed that he had stolen an angle from heaven itself, but now heaven wanted her back and he was powerless to do anything about it.

"Sesshomaru, you have to promise me that you will take care of the kids, even though they are old enough to take care of themselves. Make you sure you tell them that I love them. Make-" Kagome's words were cut off by a large cough.

"Be still, Love. The kids know that you love them. Everyone will be okay. This Sesshomaru can take care of them."

"Thanks Sesshomaru. I love you."

"Kagome, I will always love you too. I'm sorry that this had to happen. I feel that it's my fau-"

"Sesshomaru, listen to me. Nobody could have stopped this. It was bound to happen sometime, and we both knew this when we mated. However hard and short our time was together, I wouldn't trade a single minute of it. The time we had together was better than I could ever imagine. Even when I'm gone, remember the love we shared and move forward and be happy. We will meet again someday, I am sure of it, but for now just hold me and let me rest. "

Sesshomaru held his wife and mate. When her time came, she simply stopped breathing. Kagome died with a smile on her face because she was in her favorite place to be: her mate's arms.

The years passed and Sesshomaru never stopped loving his mate. He moved forward, knowing that one day soon her spirit would find his again.

The day came in one of the most common of places: the supermarket. He was standing in the canned food isle when he saw her.

"Kagome," was all that he said.

When he had said her name, it was like an electric shock to her system. She looked up and dropped what was in her hands.

"Sesshomaru!" her voice brought back so many memories, especially some of her last words. "We will meet again someday, I am sure of it." Kagome had always kept her word.
