“Nee-chan!”

She felt a hazy fog cloud her mind as she struggled to hear the voice calling her.

“Nee-chan!”

Who was calling her?

“O-nee-chaaaaaaan!”

Why did that voice sound so familiar!

“Wake up, nee-chan! Wake up!”

She felt so warm where she was.  Did she have to get up?  She didn’t want to…

“Nee-chan! If you don’t hurry and get up, I’m gonna eat all your noodles!”

Why didn’t that voice just leave her alone?

“Nee-chan! It’s snowing outside, again! Wah! Come see the snow!”

Snow?  She’d had enough of snow.  Too cold!

“Nee-chaaaaaaaan!!!!”

Leave me alone!

“I want a snowdrop, nee-chan!”

Wait… what was that?  A snowdrop?  Wait… that’s right, she had to… get Souta a snowdrop!

“Give me a snowdrop, nee-chan, so that I can die!”

Wait-what?

“Bring me a snowdrop so that you can finally be free from having to take care of me!”

Why would I do it if it meant your death?

“You promised me a snowdrop; you promised me that you would kill me so that things would get better for you!”

No! I would never want you dead, Souta! You’re my little brother! I love you!

Suddenly, an image of Souta appeared before her, sickly and pale.  Wounds covered him all over as he dragged his broken legs forward.  He rose a twisted arm at her, broken finger pointing at her.  A sharp wind rushed towards her, piercing and sharp, never-ending.

“You killed me, nee-chan!  I waited for you and you killed me!?” he screamed at her.

Souta! No! I wanted to come back! I want to come back!

“You wanted me dead! You killed me!  How could you!?  HOW COULD YOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUU!?” he screeched at her, voice rising to a higher pitch.

No! I didn’t!  I didn’t want you to die! NOOOO! SOUTAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Suddenly, his body convulsed rapidly and blood started to spurt out of his every orifice as his body began to shift and change before her eyes.  Bones broke and the sound of flesh tearing made her scream at how helpless she was to help him.  Yet before she knew it, his quaking body fell to the ground in a pool of his own blood.  Just then, the ground was suddenly covered with snow.  She saw that the body of Souta was no longer his.  Who was it?...

A dark laughter arose from the body as it shook with each breath.  The broken and bloody body began to rise and Kagome was struck with panic and fear as she stared at her own battered body that looked right back at her with a bloody smile.

“Oh you know who I am, little Kagome…” came her own voice from the bleeding body.

She couldn’t stand to look at her own body, mangled and bleeding a river of blood into the snow.

“Poor, poor little Kagome… You thought it was all real, didn’t you?” her bloody copy taunted her with its broken jaw, “you thought he cared for you and you were selfish enough to believe it!”

The contorted body limped forward a step and Kagome felt herself wanting to puke.

A gurgle bursted out from the Kagome copy’s bleeding mouth and began to laugh mockingly at her, “What?  No words to defend yourself, little miss miko Kagome?  No words to explain just why you’re enjoying your time here, fucking around with that cold piece of inuyoukai meat while your dear little brother is dead as a log at home?  What a selfish little, horny cunt you are!”

Stop!

“Whore!”

Stop it!

“Slut!”

STOP!

“Witch!

SHUT UP!

“You deserve to die!”

Suddenly, copy Kagome was in front of her, bloody sword shoved in Kagome’s abdomen.  The pain was fierce and freezing.  She looked down to see that ice had surrounded the stab and had begun to spread outwards towards the rest of her body.  A dark, deep laughter met her ears as her eyes spied a familiar claw with stripes on the hilt of the sword.  Looking up, she saw Sesshoumaru’s mouth wide open, his laughter boisterous and condemning as he pulled out the gleaming sword with her blood.

Sesshoumaru!  Why!?

Jeering laughter met her ears, deafening until she felt her ears were going to explode.

Sesshoumaru!

Grabbing the hilt with both hands, he swung the sword back and then forward to lop off her head.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

“Kagome!”

She was jolted awake, body sweaty and hands grasping tightly to warm hands to the point of pain.  Her breaths were quick and labored.  Tears flooded down her eyes like a waterfall of sorrow.  Had she…?

“Kagome.”

Her eyes darted up to the voice, searching in the darkness for anything, anything to tell her that she had been dreaming; that it had all been false!

Golden orbs stared back at her, luminescent in the dark like two burning suns.  She knew those eyes!  Yet they were not mocking her and looking at her with hate and disdain!

“Kagome, what is wrong?” Sesshoumaru asked her, concern laced in his voice.

Her hands suddenly shot forward to grasp his face, pressing his skin and rubbing his stripes on his pale face to see if he was real.

Yet before Sesshoumaru could ask her further about her current condition, she had been sick after all, she broke out in a loud sob and all he could do was let her bury her face in his chest and cry hard.

After speaking with Bokuseno, he came back to the shiro to find Kagome in the garden, unconscious by a broken ice sculpture.  Fearing for the worst, he brought her to his quarters and had the healer examine her, who told him that she was heating up and the healer could do no more unless he wished to contract her illness, for heat harmed youkai due their cold bodies.  Yet despite her sickness, which they had assumed had come from being out in the cold too long, the healer believed that her illness also came from something else, of which he could not determine.

Sesshoumaru did not dwell on that idea for too long. Several weeks had gone by as Kagome fought her illness. Sesshoumaru kept a silent vigil over her as he took meticulous care of her.  Her illness was strange, for she tossed and turned greatly due to the many nightmares she had.  She screamed at night and cried in her sleep.  Many times, he thought she was going to die as her spirit and aura would almost be extinguished.  To strengthen her, he let his youki join her powers whenever she became weak, making her reiki jump and force her spirit to respond.  Then she would quiet and sleep soundly, only to do the same thing again later.  He heard her scream for her little brother and apologize to him over and over again through the many nights that she was unconscious  What had she done that had been so horrible?  Better yet, what was wrong with her?  What had happened while he had been gone that night?

Kagome kept crying and all Sesshoumaru could do was wrap his strong arms around her, hoping his newfound heat would soothe and comfort her.

Out in the snowy night, blue eyes suddenly opened from the pale, almost transparent beauty lying in the snow.  She let out a chilly breath, full of freezing air from her blue lips.  Tossing her jet black hair back over her shoulder, it slowly bled into silver.  Blue eyes melted into gold as magenta markings appeared on her slightly less pale face.  Red lips covered blue and a blue crescent moon adorned the forehead of the unearthly female beauty.  Inhaling deeply and exhaling loudly, she divested herself of her white robe, letting it fall to the ground as snow.  Walking a short distance to a fallen log, from inside of it she pulled out a purple and white kimono with a fur pelt to throw around her flawless body.  Although the cold did nothing to harm her, for she lived in it and loved it, she merely wore the kimono to show her status and her station as the Lady of the West. Wiping off a trail of blood from the corner of her mouth, she looked over to where her latest conquest laid, naked and drained of life.

Though not quite as rich of a meal, she was satisfied enough for now and turned back to the matter at hand.  Pulling out an amulet from her long sleeve, the Lady tapped her finger on the dark stone in the middle of the amulet in annoyance.  She frowned.

It didn't work.

The ningen yet lives…

Not too far off, a snowdrop had just poked through the snow.
