Daring you by Sayre

Leaning In

They sat at the desk staring at each other, both not saying a word. She was used to his silence, as he was used to her need to fill the empty space with words, but today she sat silent, not having much to say.

He gazed at her and wondered how her beauty had affected him so, it wasnt that she was gorgeous, not to others at least, no she was more plain, no real striking features, and yet......he still was awed sometimes when he looked at her, still stunned by who she was.

It was her eyes he decided, they were what drew him in, those almond shaped brown eyes, had caught his attention from across the room with her intense stare and he couldnt help but be drawn in. And to be drawn in by her was to fall in love with all she was.

Yes, he could say that it was the eyes that first drew him in.

She sat there quietly, just enjoying the opportunity to study him. He didnt always take the time off of work to just sit with her like this so she enjoyed it when  she could. And today like everyday he was a sight to see.

His broad shoulders always made her think of strength, his ability to protect her from the world even though she didnt need him to. His arms were the perfect length to hold her, reaching around her waist to bring her snug against him. And his smell, gods he smelled like the forest, and a night after rain, and everything divine and safe in the world.

But most of all, what really caught her attention about him was his hands, the large manly grace about them he had when gesturing while he was talking or just when they were sitting pliant in his lap.

Yes, it was his hands that first drew her in.

He enjoyed that she liked to talk, enjoyed how she always spoke her mind so that he didnt have to. He was a man of silence, sparing with his words.

And she, well she loved discussing everything, from something she had read in the paper that day, to a random thought that made her laugh. She was what he would classify as a chatterbox.....but he enjoyed it all the same.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She loved that he listended, that he always gazed into her eyes as she spoke.

Not many people could put up with her rambling as he did, and if anything he seemed to enjoy it, just watching her with those golden, predatory eyes softened with emotion every time they looked at her.

And she relished that she could understand what those eyes where saying before he even open his mouth to speak, others called him stoic, but she........she loved his silences.

They sat at the table, staring into each others eyes, and saw all these moments. He saw her eyes that first time he looked at her, those evenings spent just listening to her voice as it wrapped around them, the comfort in knowing his pack, she, was there.

She sat there and saw his hands, the way his arms wrapped around her, the way his eyes gleamed with emotions seemingly just for her, the way his silence comforted her as she rambled, knowing that every night he would be there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They sat there in silence, neither saying a word, when he reached over and drew her into a soft kiss, she melted into him letting him wrap his arms around her in a silent promise that he would never leave her again.
