Holler Me Home by The Norrington

Your Son

"Mother!" exclaimed a sweet, high voice.

Bright gold eyes and smoky gray hair marked the curious passing of the hanyou heir of the west.  Dirt smeared one cheeked and was caked under his claws.  A small nose sniffed the air curiously, and he huffed, his face falling into an adorable scowl.  The servants bit their cheeks to with hold their chuckles.

"Momma?" he called again, sounding frustrated.

Without bothering to knock, he opened the large door to his father's study and peeked in.  Gold met gold and Sesshomaru tilted his head.  His son gave a big sniff, and then tilted his head in confusion.

"Etsuo, what is it?" asked Sesshomaru, pretending to return to his scroll.

"Have you seen Momma?" asked his small son, and Sesshomaru's lips twitched.

"Perhaps you should check the baths," he said, eyeing his son's soiled clothing and the mud that clung in his hair and smattered his skin.

Absentmindedly Etsuo nodded, leaving and closing the door behind him.  Sesshomaru waited in silence for a moment, reading a few lines of his scroll, before he spoke aloud.

"It's a shame you are using your powers to hide your scent from your own son."

Kagome stepped from behind the heavy curtains that draped the large window, but she did not release her scent from it's bindings.  She sat into the chair before his desk with a sigh, and Sesshomaru eyed her appreciatively.

"You would too.  This is the sixth bath I will need to give him.  The sixth one in the last three hours. Kid wears me out."

He noticed that she did seem rather frazzled, and her fingertips were pruny.  Amused, he simply gave her a warm look.

"Are you not eternally young now, woman?" he teased,  "You should not be worn down by a mere pup."

She groaned, but gave him that smile that still made his heart beat just a little harder.

"Your son would make anyone feel ancient."

A/N:  A little bit of feel good family fluff.  Etsuo, when translated, means "joyous life".  This was from SunsetMiko's Once A Week Challenge, and the prompt was Ancient.  2/9/13
