-Golden Afternoon-

Everything was set.

But she couldn’t shake the compelling concern that whatever was about to occur was the wrong decision. This strange feeling plagued her the entire morning, even Sesshomaru seems a bit antsy, in his own stoic way. The wizard stood behind the giant kettle, the steaming clouds of scented fragrance filled the cave in a hazy embrace. Each languid stir of the strange purplish liquid caused an unfamiliar dread to fill her. He added the blood of the slaughtered animals and plopped the hide of the goat after doing so, turning the liquid into a daunting red. Next, the sliced pieces of the peculiar apples were dropped in, shifting the potion into a carnation pink. “It’s almost done.” He whispered in a conspiratorial manner, a maniacal smirk lighting his face.

Sesshomaru and herself sat a couple feet back from the pot, dressed in foreign white attires. A loose, red string was tied in a single loop around their shoulders, bringing them together; Nobuharu stated each item was a part of the ritual. It didn’t make her feel better, and each item he placed on her or Sesshomaru garnered hesitation.

“Sacred Gods of the heavens and Earth,

Provide this couple with salvation.

Render them from simple folly and foul blurs

Whom once were transformed a cursed deformation,

Are now blessed to inverse.”

After his chant, Nobuharu placed a bowl filled to the brim of pinkish potion in front of the duo and gestured towards them to swallow it. “Three sips from each.” He instructed, his fingers tapping impatiently against his thigh.

Kagome looked into it, catching her reflection. She swallowed her gulp and placed her lips near the edge. Glancing from the corner of her eye, she saw Sesshomaru mimic her actions. Together they drank the required amount and sat back. They waited and watched as a slow grin spread across the lips of the wizard, and Kagome felt her dread increase. Dots began scattering across her eyes and her head seemed lighter than a feather. Her body seemed to rock gently, and her hands began to shake uncontrollably.

With a gasp at the abnormal sensations, darkness consumed her.
