Chapter 83: Date
“Ooh! What should we do first?” Kagome asked, a wide smile on her face. Her eyes were alight with a sheen of excitement as she wrung her hands, not knowing what else to do with them at the moment.
She was utterly entrancing in her crimson yukata. Pink cherry blossoms graced the fabric, weaving a pattern along her sleeves and the hem near her geta-clad feet. Her gold obi was snug around her waist, and her hair had been tied back into a bun, connected to twin braids running along the sides of her head. Though the style was simple, it enhanced all of the other qualities that made her uniquely beautiful.
Sesshoumaru, on the other hand, had opted for a much darker yukata–black in its coloring with a maroon obi to secure it closed. Because summer was now upon them, he’d bound his silver locks at the nape of his neck, revealing more skin than he would have liked, but tolerating it to some degree because it had been a welcome relief to the hot weather. And, like his wife, he wore a pair of traditional geta sandals, which were appropriate for the festival they were currently attending.
Chuckling softly, Sesshoumaru reached out and laced her fingers with his own, bringing their joined hands to his lips. The barest of touches grazed her knuckles and the ring that adorned her finger. Ivy vines were engraved into the silver band, where a blue diamond sat in the center, flanked by a pair of clear ones. It had been custom-made by a good friend of his father’s and was certainly not a typical wedding ring. The fact that they weren’t a typical couple helped to reinforce this notion. Fortunately, Kagome hadn’t minded since she would have been happy with whatever he gave her.
“It is up to you, Kagome,” he answered, amused when she pouted cutely.
“You always say that! Isn’t there anything you’d really like to do?”
“Make you happy.”
Kagome blushed. “Erm… Besides that?”
Sesshoumaru canted his head as he looped his arm through hers. His citrine orbs took in the various stalls lining the path, nostrils quivering at the delicious scents in the air.
“Food,” he rumbled finally, pulling her along gently. He was pleased when Kagome allowed him to guide her, knowing his nose was more sensitive than hers, thus having a greater sense of smell than she did. He had told her it was a trait that was inherent to his family, and, being none the wiser, she had accepted it without question.
After brushing past a group of idling people, the couple came to a stop in front of a takoyaki stand, mouths watering at the aroma of the delectable snacks. One of the servers smiled instantly upon seeing the looks of utter bliss on their faces.
“Welcome! How many?”
“Three, please,” Kagome said, after noticing that her husband’s focus remained on the food. She giggled and shook her head before reaching into her sleeve for her coin purse. Handing over the necessary payment, she smiled at the worker.
“Here’s your order!”
“Thanks!” Kagome poked Sesshoumaru’s arm to get his attention. “Are you gonna make me carry these by myself?”
That did the trick.
“Hn.”
The male’s eyes glinted as he took two of the containers into his grasp. Making sure that the woman was following him, he strode away, intending to find a place where they could eat in peace. He scowled when a passerby bumped into him.
During the time in which they had gotten their food, he couldn’t help but to notice how much busier it had gotten. There were a lot more people crowding around at the festival, and he didn’t want his wife to get lost amongst the sea of them.
She had the tendency to attract trouble, after all.
