Chapter 4: Claim

It was a year after they became friends that they’d encountered their first hurdle.

For some reason, Kouga had become enamored with poor, little Kagome and refused to leave her alone. He followed her around with shouts of, “My girl!” much to Sesshoumaru’s annoyance. And when it came to the point where Kouga began to invade her personal space with constant hugs and countless presents, Sesshoumaru had lost it.

He had stood up from his desk, he’d remembered, and marched over to Kouga’s table, a mighty glare on his cherubic face. He had promptly taken the other boy’s bag of candy canes–their teacher had gifted each of them with one–and stomped on it. He’d reveled in Kouga’s look of horror when the red and white stripes of the treats were split with jagged cracks.

Sesshoumaru had felt even more triumphant when he’d told him, “Kagome is my girl.”
