Eyes of Blue

Disclaimer: Do not own Inuyasha. How saddening.

The pack had settled for the evening near a river. Rin and Jaken had shown up just before the fire was extinguished, and Rin cheerfully clutched onto Kagome in greeting. She even gave little Hanako a tight hug as well before curling up beside Ah-Un and fell asleep.

Jaken grumbled about being in the company of the inu-tachi, but with two well rounded kicks to his skull from both Sesshomaru, and Hayame, he too blissfully succumbed to sleep.

Hanako remained nestled with Sesshomaru, and Shippou decided to forgo his usual spot next to his Mother, to curl up with Rin by the two-headed dragon.

The evening passed to morning uneventfully. Even Inuyasha and Sesshomaru eventually allowed themselves to sleep lightly, an ear constantly twitching to listen for danger.

Kagome grumbled softly as she woke, stretching her arms wide. She had missed the small warmth that was normally nestled into her side, but she couldn't contain the smile at the sight of Rin and Shippou cuddled together against Ah-Un.

Glancing around the clearing, she prepared breakfast for everyone, listening as slowly, all of her pack mates woke up and retrieved a bowl from her.

“Sesshomaru-sama, do you mind if we relax by the river for a while? Let the children play.”

Nodding, Sesshomaru allowed Hanako to cautiously exit his arms. The pup was staring at Rin and Shippou whom were playing in the shallow section of the river. “Come on Hanako-chan!”

Glancing from one adult to the adult, seeing no apprehension in their gaze, she darted for the water with a giggle.

Kagome rested against a boulder not far from the river with Sango at her side. The gentle splashing of water was relaxing to the group as they basked in the warmth of the sun. Even Miroku held a serene expression upon his features as he settled into a meditative state.

A squeal of excitement caught the attention of the adults, specifically Sesshomaru and Kagome. Rin and Shippou, with a trailing Hanako, darted up to the miko with a wide smile. “Look at the pebble, Kagome-sama!”

Rin extended her hand toward the woman, showcasing a beautiful silver speckled blue stone. “It's so pretty!”

Smiling at the young girl before her, she curled Rin's fingers over the stone. “That, little Rin, is a lapis lazuli.”

“Lady Kagome, I want you to have it!” The young girl grinned widely, revealing a gaped tooth smile, as she thrust her hand toward Kagome.

“Ah, but you found it, Rin-chan!”

“But it's the color of your eyes, Kagome-sama!”

Shaking her head with a gentle smile, she reached out and plucked the gem from the now open palm of the little girl. “Thank you, Rin-chan. I will find a way to craft it into a necklace or something.”

“Yay! You're welcome, Sesshomaru-sama! ” Rin giggled, clapping her hands together before snatching Shippou and Hanako's hands, yanking the two back to the river.

Kagome flickered wide, surprised eyes to the Daiyoukai who refused to glance to her. However, she could see the small smirk upon his lips, causing her to blush.
