Summary: Kagome is taking a break from her training and decides to sing a song to calm her nerves, before she returns to training.

On Top of the World

Kagome stood in the garden of Sesshomaru's shiro thinking of the past few days of training. Not only did she have to deal with her miko training, but also the training to become the Lady of the Western Lands. Unknowingly Kagome starts to hum as she begins to practice her lessons. The humming soon turns into words, as she perches precariously on a stump by a small koi pond;

“I don't have the balance

Think I'm gonna fall

Wish I had the talent

Don't belong here at all,”

Kagome continues to hum, as she pulls a fan out of her obi and starts to move it to the music. Her movements are graceful, as she only pays attention to the words that are demanding to be released,

“Ooo...

Ooo...

Ooo...

“Drowning in the pressure

In over my head

Why did I thing I could do this?

I could have walked away instead,”

The tempo of the song starts to pick up, so does Kagome's movements. So into her dance and song, Kagome never noticed that she was no longer alone. Standing just out of her sense, stood her mate, Lord Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru never would let the miko know of his presence. He just stood there and watched as she removed a second fan from her obi and dance with that one as well.

“But this is my chance to break free

Everything depending on me

And if I keep trying I'll be

On top of the world!

Where I can see everything before me

Reaching out to touch the sky

On top of the world!

All of my dreams are rushing toward me

Stretching out my wings to fly

On top of the world!”

Sesshomaru slowly moved outside the miko’s sensing range, as not to break her concentration. He watched the graceful movements that she had been working so hard to perfect. He had realized that the miko's low self-esteem would hinder her improvement, but here where no one was looking or judging her, Kagome could let go and be the Lady she truly is.

“On top of the world!”

Kagome noticed that the movements that she had been learning had been becoming more graceful and easier as she danced. A small smile made its way across her face. Maybe she really could do this and make her mate proud. The tone of her voice increased as well as her movements, as Kagome threw herself into the last two verses of her song.

“Nothing's gonna break me

Gonna get it right

Even if it it takes me

Doing it a thousand times

Ooo...Ooo...Ooo...

Trying once is easy

Discipline is hard

But nothing can defeat me

If the change is in my heart”

Sesshomaru moved up behind his miko and wrapped his arms around her waist. He turned her around and started dancing with her. Sesshomaru let out a low rumble as Kagome wrapped her arms around his shoulders and continued to sing.

“This is my chance to break free

Everything's depending on me

And if I keep trying I'll be

On top of the world!

Where I can see everything before me

Stretching out my wings to fly

On top of the world!”

The dancing couple never noticed that the song had ended, there were too wrapped up in each other. But at that very moment both of their thoughts were in sync. In that moment they knew that no matter the trails that lay before them, they would conquer each one together and in the end both of them would remain together; for eternity.
