Chapter Seventy-Five

Last night passed like a dream and as the Priestess went about her daily routine of patients, it was all she could think about. She hadn’t felt cold until she had been in front of her own fire, in her own hut by herself. Rin had stayed out with Shippou, probably sleeping off whatever game they had gotten into, in the woods somewhere. The note which she had found upon her desk this morning told her as much.

“Now try not to move around too much, alright Chiharu-chan? If you play too rough it’ll pull the stiches and you will have to come back, understand?”

“I understand Kagome-sama.” The young teen said politely, her bright brown eyes were mischievous however and Kagome was sure she’d be seeing the rascal teen again in a few days.

“Thank you so much Higurashi-sama.” The mother of the teen ushered forward with a basket of goods, Kagome accepted it easily but declined the few coins the woman tried to pay with. “The food is more than enough, thank you very much.” The women bowed at one another before the mother ushered her daughter from the second room and into the first where another patient waited. Sitting behind her desk for only a moment to finish up Chiharu’s paperwork she reached for her journal and jotted down notes about the way Chiharu’s surgery went. The girl reacted well enough to the salves that Kagome had made, and it was that she wrote down now in case Chiharu came back with a more serious problem.

Replacing the journal in its compartment she lifted the flap that separated the rooms and found her face to face with a demon. She blinked and then bowed only enough to be polite, “Can I help you?”

“They say you are a great healer.” The demon was some sort canine demon, but she wasn’t sure if it was any of the breeds that immediately came to mind.

“They say many things.”

“Do you reserve your healing to just humans then?”

“I am human.” She offered, but not as an answer. The demon frowned, his form very animalistic and marked him as a lesser cast; unlike Inuyasha or Koga whose forms were pretty much humanoid. His fur was grey and his eyes silver.

“Is that your answer?”

She remained silent, looking into his eyes before she sighed and shook her head, “Of course not, what do you need?”

“My mate… she’s pregnant-.” Kagome reacted instantly, spinning in place and rapidly packing containers and jars.

“Is she injured in any way?”

“Y-yes, a tree fell on our den and her leg is badly twisted-.”

“Over there on the shelf! Everything from the bottom shelf and two up! In that bag!” She pointed to a very large yellow sack with odd compartment. He hesitated for only a second, “MOVE YOUR ASS!” She snapped at him, already weighted down by three bags, a coil of rope over her shoulder and what appeared box of towels.
