Chapter one

I know it’s not December, but I decided to go rummaging through my external hard drive aaand I think I’m going to cast rebirth on this one. :o We’ll see!

Sesshomaru grinned, he couldn't wait for Kagome to get home, and he had such a surprise for her. It was the beginning of December and Christmas was Kagome's favorite holiday. It wasn't about the presents for her at all anymore, not for a long time, he knew it was because she loved spending time with her family and others she considered family. He sighed again, she was late and he was just itching to see her. “Curse her job.” He said aloud to himself, “It's a shame that she loves it so much because she really doesn't need to work with my income” He started pacing the living room of their apartment, growing impatient.

Kagome was a preschool teacher she taught a morning class and a night class and sometimes some of her student's parents were late, clearly this was one of those nights. He always wondered how parents could be so heartless to forget about their children and leave them at their preschool so late or just forget about them altogether. He remembered a few phone calls from Kagome over this past year, she would call to let him know she would be later than usual because a she ended up having to call a parent because they forgot their son/daughter for over a half hour past class. He sighed, yet again, he hadn't received a phone call from Kagome this night and began to wonder, he was anxious to go. He had a special dinner planned for Kagome at a cute little restaurant in downtown Reno. They served German food and Kagome, since their trip to Germany after they finished their first year of college, loves German food. One of his employees suggested this place he had never heard of it before and decided to check it out one day. The food was great and a perfect surprise for Kagome.

Sesshomaru looked at his watch, almost 8 PM; Kagome's class was over at 7. It was time to call her. “Well this is cute. Dinner plans ruined for tonight, I suppose there's always tomorrow…” Sesshomaru groaned at having to delay his plans. He picked up the phone and dialed Kagome's cell hoping she'd pick up. After a couple rings it switched over to her voicemail. Now he was really confused she ignored the call, it didn't ring enough for it to have automatically switched over. Deciding she wouldn't ignore the call on purpose he called the preschool hoping this time she'd pick up.

“Happy Oaks Preschool, this is Sarah how can I help you today?” The woman who picked up the phone answered, Sarah was Kagome's assistant, a little flaky if you asked Sesshomaru but Kagome liked her.

“Hi there Sarah,” Sesshomaru replied, “Is Kagome available.” Having called enough he knew he didn't have to identify himself at this point.

Sarah frowned on the other end of the line, “No, she left at 7:15, isn't she home?”

Now Sesshomaru was really worried, it was snowing out, the roads were icy, and Sesshomaru was starting to dream up worst case scenarios. “Ah, no, I was hoping she was just running late with a student.”

“I'm sure the snow is just slowing her down Sesshomaru don't fret! Kagome's a smart woman and she's probably just fine!” Sarah reassured him, “I bet she'll be home any minute!”

Just as Sarah finished her sentence Sesshomaru turned to see headlights in the driveway and breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you Sarah, she just pulled up. You have a nice night now.” With that Sesshomaru hung up his cell phone and rushed to the door, eager to greet his Kagome.

Kagome sat in her car for a few minutes after she pulled up, she knew Sesshomaru was worried but the snow always scared her and it was snowing something fierce tonight. She rested her head against the steering wheel of her Subaru, “Thank goodness for snow tires and all wheel.” She muttered to the dashboard.

After waiting a few minutes near the door Sesshomaru frowned again, she usually came right in but she was waiting for something… maybe he was supposed to go out to her. He slipped on his shoes to go see what was taking her so long and panicked a bit to see her head against the steering wheel. He rushed to the door and almost ripped the door off the car itself. “Kagome! Are you alright?” She looked at him bewilderedly.

“Sesshomaru I'm fine, I just took my time getting home, the roads are icy and I'm grateful to be home safe, I just needed to rest for a few minutes! Christ!” Kagome gasped at him, he scared her when he pulled open the door.

“I was just worried.” Sesshomaru frowned, “You were home late and you didn't call I was afraid something might have happened in this weather.”

Kagome sighed, she was a little harsh in her tone, “I'm sorry Sesshy you just scared me, but it's cold can we go inside?” Sesshomaru stood up and went around to the other side of her car to grab her yellow school bag to take inside for her.

Once inside they kicked off their shoes and flipped on the PS3 and TV, “What movie would you like to watch my dear Kagome?” He asked as he pulled her against him and snuggled into their cushy futon. If their dinner plans wouldn't work then he would just have to order some take out and snuggle up with her to watch a movie!

Kagome looked thoughtful for a second and instead of answering the question asked, “What are we having for dinner, I'm hungry.” She frowned at the last part, Kagome didn't like being hungry she always got crabby when she was hungry.

Sesshomaru couldn't help but smile at her one track mind, “I figured we'd order a pizza tonight. Now what movie are we watching tonight?”

“Hm… I'll look through the Netflix options and you go order our pizza!” Kagome finally settled on. “I want breadsticks too gosh darn it! You always forget them!” She made a pouty face and Sesshomaru smiled at her again.

“Fine, but no mushy movies!” He got up to go order the pizza fully knowing she would pick a mushy movie even with that said. He didn't really mind after all, anything to make his Kagome snuggle up to him and get all romancy.

“No meat on my half of the pizza!” She called after him. She wasn't a fan of the greasy meats that came on pizza and chicken just dried out. She went to the Netflix application on their PS3 and starting flipping through exactly what Sesshomaru said not to. She grinned to herself he always said no romantic movies but she knew deep down he didn't mind. He always did love her getting her in a romantic mood; the sex was always that much better when she was like that. She decided on Kate and Leopold as Sesshomaru came back into the room.

“It'll be here in an hour.” He sighed; he hated eating late stupid snow! He couldn't really complain though, he was still going to be close and cuddly with his Kagome this night, “Kate and Leopold huh?”

Kagome grinned, “Of course! You told me no romance movies so of course I had to pick one, besides I love this one so much!” She hit the `X' on the controller to start the movie and Sesshomaru laid down on the futon behind her beckoning for her to come lay in front of him. She set the controller on the coffee table and snuggled into him smiling.

“So how were the children today?” Sesshomaru asked stroking Kagome's hair lightly. Kagome sighed, pushing back her sudden attack of emotions. “Aw Kagome, love, what's wrong?” Sesshomaru became concerned smelling the sadness wafting off her in strong waves and he knew it wasn't the movie seeing as it hadn't even really started yet.

How could she tell him that she was ready to take their relationship further, she wanted to be his mate and have his pups. The tears started to push through, she was afraid of how he might react but she needed to tell him. She took a deep breath and wriggled around to face him, “Sesshomaru,” she put her hand on his face and smiled a watery smile at him, “I love you and I want us to be more. We've been living together for three years now and we've been together since our freshman year in college, we've done the long distance thing when I moved to California for my degree and you stayed here for yours and we made it work. I know we're supposed to be together.” She closed her eyes and rested her head against his chest, waiting for his answer.

Sesshomaru listened to her words carefully, he knew this was coming since he too was feeling the same way, he was ready to finally settle down with his lovely Kagome and start a family but how could he tell her that's what he was planning for her tonight anyway but since she was late his plans were postponed? He couldn't. “Kagome… I understand how you're feeling but I think we need to wait just a little longer; after all, your mother back in Japan still has no idea we're even together. Call your mother tomorrow, it's Saturday and tell her about us then we'll go from there.” Sesshomaru explained, concealing his plans. He knew Kagome wouldn't call her mother tomorrow, she hated being on the phone and for that reason he kept in contact with her mother and kept her up to date on everything.

Kagome sniffled, he put her off again, suddenly she wasn't really in the mood for a movie or cuddling tonight, it was a long day and she just wanted to go shower and curl up in bed. She wasn't even hungry anymore. “Just stick my pizza in the fridge when it gets here.” She sniffled and got off the futon and shuffled off to the bathroom to shower. Hopefully it would make her feel better. She loved Sesshomaru she really did but she hated how he put her off like this. Did he really love her back? She sighed pushing those thoughts from her head, she needed to shower and relax.

Sesshomaru watched Kagome get up and leave the room, he knew he had upset her but he really wanted to surprise her tomorrow. This day was not at all how he wanted it to be. He sighed; she was going to shower, without him. He couldn't blame her though, not one bit, he crushed her again. This wasn't the first time he had done it either, it's not like he meant to hurt her all the time he just had other plans. It would be ok though. Everything will work itself out in the end, or in this case in their beginning. He wanted nothing more than to mate Kagome and be with her for the rest of his life.

The doorbell rang breaking him out of his musings. He had forgotten how hungry he was and opened the door with the $35 for the pizza boy. He handed the boy the money and took his pizza and breadsticks that Kagome wanted so badly. Hopefully she'd come eat after all. He'd salvage what he could of this night. After setting the pizza boxes on the table he wandered down to their room where he sensed Kagome would be located. He was happy that she hadn't hopped into the shower yet. “Kagome?” He called out pushing open the door slightly and peering in, she was sitting on the bed not facing him, and she was shaking with sobs, trying to get them under control so Sesshomaru couldn't see how much he hurt her. He crawled onto the bed behind her and pulled her into his lap. “I love you Kagome, I really do, and I promise we'll be together forever.” He whispered to her trying to reassure her, she'd just have to wait till tomorrow to find out what he was planning, maybe they would do lunch instead of dinner.

“I know Sesshomaru, I just want us to be more, I love teaching preschool because I love children but…” She trailed off sobbing some more and curling into Sesshomaru's chest.

“But what Kagome? What aren't you telling me I know there's something else.” Sesshomaru already knew what she was hiding for the most part, she couldn't hide it from him not with the way she expresses emotion. He could smell it in her scent, it had been changing ever so slightly for the past few months, he knew she was ready to have her own children.

Kagome took a deep breath but she couldn't meet his eyes, “I want to start our own family Sesshomaru.” She cried into his chest, she was almost unintelligible but Sesshomaru having known her for so long deciphered her words just fine. “I want to be a mommy and I want you to be the wonderful father I know you can be…” Kagome was still crying into Sesshomaru's chest. She couldn't help it, she was longing to be a parent for 3 months now and Sesshomaru hadn't expressed any interest at all, even with her subtle hints.

“Kagome, I want to have pups too but not yet, I know we're both ready but not yet ok?” He tried to reason with her and could see that he was succeeding. “Now let's go have some of that pizza before it gets too cold and you can shower and crawl into bed.” He smiled at her hugging her tightly. He could never stand to lose her.

Kagome surrendered to her returning hunger at the mention of food and allowed her Sesshy to carry her out of their room. She scarfed down her pizza and excused herself from the table; she still wasn't thrilled with Sesshomaru at the moment. “I'm going to shower ok?” She wasn't really looking for an answer and continued on to the bathroom. She was looking forward to a shower or maybe a bath…

She entered the bathroom and started the water for a bath, she was glad they chose the apartment with the nicer bathtub. She plugged the tub when the water warmed up and started stripping off her clothes, neatly folding them and placing them on the counter and lit some nice crisp apple scented candles. Once the bathtub was filled to her liking she shut off the water and sunk into the hot water. She didn't really want to think about anything just relax, letting her body melt into the tub she dozed off a bit.

*2 Hours Later*

Sesshomaru looked up from his paperwork at the clock, it had been two hours since Kagome entered the bathroom and now he was beginning to wonder what she was up to. He sauntered over to the bathroom door and knocked. After a few seconds of silence he knocked again, still no answer, he opened the door, Kagome was sleeping in the bathtub, of course. Now was as good of time as any to shower. He took off his clothes and folded them neatly next to Kagome's. Walking over to Kagome he sighed down at her, “Oh Kagome, if only I could tell you know how much I want to mate you, but it has to be perfect, just a little bit longer though.” He whispered to her almost inaudibly. He pulled out the plug in the bathtub and started to wake Kagome. She stirred a little and smiled up at Sesshomaru.

“Hi there,” she greeted and shifted to stand up.

“Have a nice nap?” Sesshomaru offered her his hand to help her up then started the shower. He helped her wet her hair and wash it. She moaned when he started rubbing her scalp lightly with his claws, it always felt so good when he did that.

“Mhmmm” She moaned out when he pulled her into his embrace and leaned against the wall. “What's planned for tomorrow?” She mumbled sleepily against his chest, twirling a strand of his hair between her fingers.

He paused for a moment, “I thought we might go to lunch and spend the day together maybe go see a movie” He extracted his fingers from her hair and began lightly rubbing her lower back with the pads of his fingers, she melted against him and moaned louder. Her back was so sore from her day in class, they had a field trip today and she was on her feet all day. “Kagome there's too much tension in your lower back again, you need better shoes.”

She groaned at him, “Shut up and don't ruin the moment, I know I need new shoes. Maybe we could go shoe shopping tomorrow?” Kagome gave him a puppy dog face and now it was Sesshomaru's turn to groan.

“Kagome…” He whined, “I hate getting you shoes and you always make me get new ones too!” She giggled at him, fully awake now, she knew what his reaction would be but she wanted him to go anyway she liked having his company.

Kagome tugged at his arm and shifted their positions so Sesshomaru could get his hair wet and wash it, Kagome gave him the same treatment he gave her and a little more. She grinned at him and slid her hands down his chest after she finished washing his hair. Little did he know she wasn't as asleep as he thought she was when he whispered to her earlier, she was so happy to hear that but she couldn't spoil his surprise. Instead he'd just get a little extra special shower treatment tonight. She stroked his member to life and he groaned again, she pressed her lips against his and slid down his body to her knees. She licked her lips, it had been a while since they'd played in the shower and she was looking forward to pleasing him. Without a second thought she licked the tip of his erection and wrapped her hand around the base, he groaned loudly and braced himself against the wall, gods he missed her. She smirked to herself and put her lips around the tip sucking lightly earning a growl from Sesshomaru, urging her on. She put her other hand on his hip to keep him in place and began to bob her head slowly moving her hand in sync and swirling her tongue around the tip.

“Gods Kagome, I missed you” He grunted out, it had been a while since he had last gotten head from her and this time was better than all other times combined and she hadn't even gotten started yet! She sucked a little harder on the tip, all the while her hand stroking his shaft. She pulled him out of her mouth and licked the underside lightly with the very tip of her tongue earning a very pleased groan from Sesshomaru. She suckled at the base for a moment then licked her way back to the tip sucking on it again. She quickened her pace with her hand and moved her head in sync. Swirling her tongue at the tip and sucking roughly, his knees were quivering and she was sure he would cum soon so she decided to play with him a bit more and stopped. She pulled him out of her mouth and removed her hand, grinning up at him.

He almost cried at the loss, “Kagome why'd -“ He whined but stopped when she felt her mouth on him again, moving more quickly this time. She loved teasing him, his reaction was the best and this time was no disappointment. Her hand joined her mouth and she quickened her pace again, sucking the tip and stroking quickly, he was close to cumming again and this time she'd let him. She moved the hand on his hip to play with his balls, he growled in approval. He tangled his hands in her hair and thrust into her mouth franticly. He groaned loudly and nearly lost his balance when he came. Kagome was ready for him when he came and gave him one last hard suck before he shot his hot seed into her mouth; she eagerly swallowed it all and grinned up at him.

She grinned at him again, seeing that he was pleased with her. “Feel good?” She questioned knowing all too well that he wouldn't be able to answer, she tried her hardest this time to turn his brain to mush and it seemed she succeeded.

He only nodded in answer and pulled her up from her knees and close. She stroked his back lightly and giggled against him. “The water's getting cold though, perhaps we should have our cuddle session in bed instead of here.” With that said she reached behind him and shut off the shower, he dried his hair and body in a daze and Kagome couldn't have been more pleased with herself. She braided her hair for bed and then Sesshomaru's, it was just that much easier to deal with in the morning if she did, and crawled into bed with the love of her life, both of them smiling like the Cheshire Cat.

*Next Day!*

Sesshomaru awoke the next morning before Kagome, he needed to finish the paperwork he started the night before. It wouldn't take him too long, he just wanted to be sure there would be nothing in the way of him having a special day with Kagome. It was going to be just him and Kagome all day, no work calls, no back of mind work thoughts, no interruptions, just him, Kagome, and an engagement ring. Seeing as she is human he expected she would want a human wedding as well as being mated and he wanted to do anything and everything to keep her happy. He looked down at Kagome who was still nestled against his chest and sighed, he really didn't want to get up yet she was so comfortable looking. Another look down and that shot his plans to hell, she looked so content. He brushed her hair away from her face and smiled, nothing could have been better than this. She shifted and mumbled incoherently he closed his eyes and drifted off again.

They awoke a few hours later, not realizing they had slept well past noon. Kagome moaned and tried to flip over when she was interrupted by a growl. “Just where do you think you're going?” Sesshomaru mumbled opening an eye to look at Kagome.

She blushed lightly and snuggled back into him when she heard his stomach growl. “I think we're getting out of bed to go feed your little monster that seems to have taken over your tummy.” She said with a grin.

He sighed knowing she was right and released her from his hold, though he was not quite ready to get up. “Fine,” He grumbled, “but I'm driving and picking where we go.”

Kagome sat up in bed and swung her legs over the side, “Fine with me as long as it's tasty!” She giggled and continued her journey to get out of bed and to get dressed.

Sesshomaru couldn't help but watch his beautiful girlfriend get dressed, she looked so amazing he just wanted to tackle her and keep her in bed all day. He settled for watching her get dressed instead and followed suit. He slid on a pair of black slacks and a button up blue pin stripe shirt. Kagome eyed him up and down; he always did have amazing fashion sense. She caught herself staring and looked away quickly. Even after the seven years they had been together she still couldn't help but stare at him, he was just so damn sexy. She finished pulling on her dark blue acid wash jeans and a long sleeve dark purple sweater and headed to the bathroom to brush her teeth.

Sesshomaru caught her staring and just smirked to himself, glad she was still physically attracted to him after all these years. He followed her to the bathroom to brush his teeth as well.

After brushing their teeth they slid on their shoes and slid out the door. They took Sesshomaru's silver Tacoma to the German restaurant he had been planning to take her to that night. He smirked when her eyes lit up when he finally told her where they were going. She was so excited. They walked inside and took their seats. A young woman wearing traditional Bavarian clothing came to take their order Kagome was so excited she almost couldn't order for herself, it didn't help when Sesshomaru started laughing at her. They finally ended up ordering sauerbraten for Kagome and Jägerpork for Sesshomaru.

Kagome was so delighted that Sesshomaru brought her hear she was wiggling in her seat and grinning like a maniac at Sesshomaru. He smiled back at her enjoying the happiness in her scent but he figured now was as good a time as any to finally tell Kagome and propose to her. His face became serious and he grasped Kagome's hands in his own across the table. She looked at him confused. He just smiled and looked deeply into her eyes, “Kagome…” He started out tightening his grip on her hands, “I've never loved anyone as much as I do you, and after the seven years that we've been together I've decided I want to be with you for the rest of my life. I want you to be my mate and I know you have your human traditions too so…” He released her hands and pulled a stunning engagement ring out of his pocket, it was a white gold band with a beautiful small sapphire surrounded in miniature diamonds, and slid around to her side on bended knee. “Kagome, will you marry me and be my mate for life?” He asked her with the most serious and happy smile he could muster, holding the ring out to her.

Kagome's eyes welled up with tears, she couldn't have been happier ever. She held her hand out to him allowing him to slide the ring onto her finger, “Of course I will Sesshomaru! I've never been happier with anyone else!” Ring now securely on her finger she threw herself at Sesshomaru hugging him tightly. She was so happy she didn't know what else to do. Sesshomaru lifted her chin and kissed her tenderly, happy that she said yes, of course he had no doubts that she wouldn't.

She scooted back into her chair and he into his as their food arrived. Kagome was almost too busy admiring her new ring to remember to eat. “Kagome, your food is getting cold.” Sesshomaru stated with a frown, maybe he should have waited until after their meal to propose.

She jumped a little at his statement and realized she was indeed neglecting her food and grinned sheepishly. “I guess you're right,” She said with a smile, “I'm just so excited you feel the same way.”

They finished their meals both quite satisfied with their service and food. They continued on with their plans for the rest of the day which entailed Sesshomaru sitting in comfy chairs in shoe stores all day while Kagome picked out the perfect shoes. Sesshomaru sighed upon entering their 5th shoe store. “Kagome, so far you've gotten new dress shoes, sandals for this summer, a new pair of non skid snow boots and no work shoes. Will you please pick some so we can go?” She looked at him and her eyebrow twitched slightly in irritation and Sesshomaru threw up his hands in surrender, they would go to a million more stores until she found the right shoes, but one can only hope, no?

He wandered around the store carrying Kagome's purchases mostly looking for some new dress shoes for himself. His were getting a little worn and not so comfortable. Seeing as this was the 5th store they had come to this day he didn't even bother to look at the advertised brands on the store front and while browsing the selection he noted they carried Earth shoes, his mood lightened a lot, he had heard a lot about these shoes and wanted to try them for himself. He eyed a pair of business looking ones the “Reagan” style and decided to try them. After sliding his feet into them and walking up and down the aisle a couple times he was absolutely sold on these Earth shoes, they were more comfortable than any shoe he'd ever had before. Stuffing the shoes back into the box he picked up Kagome's purchases and the shoes he found for himself, he wandered over to where Kagome was looking and found she too was looking at a pair of Earth shoes and the pair she was trying on looked really good on her.

She smiled when she heard him coming and modeled the shoes better. “What do you think?” She asked, not really looking for an answer since she was already sold on this pair, “I really like them, they're super comfortable and super cute! I'm getting them!” She squealed and put them back in the box. She slipped on her shoes again and skipped proudly over to the counter.

Sesshomaru set his shoes on the counter alongside hers and set Kagome's purchases down. Kagome grinned widely at him. “So you're getting them riiight” She said in a little sing song voice wiggling her shoulders with a childish grin plastered to her face.

Sesshomaru almost rolled his eyes at her and faced the clerk. She rung up their shoes and the total was really a lot for shoes but footwear is probably one of the most important things you can buy. He handed the cashier his card and sighed at how fast it was approved. “It's almost scary how fast it's approved…” he muttered and the cashier giggled at him handing him back his card. “So where to now my dear?” Sesshomaru asked Kagome while picking up her previous purchases and the most recent addition.

She looked thoughtful for a moment, “Home maybe?” She smiled seeing the relief flash in his eyes.

“Of course, and do we have anything special planned at home?” He asked with a smile, opening the car and stuffing everything in the back seat, he was so done shopping, for the rest of the year, if only that could come true. They still had lots of Christmas shopping to do. Kagome insisted on getting her children presents as well as her family and friends.

“Mm, no but I'm sure we can figure something out.” She gave him a quick peck on the cheek and hopped in the car.
