Opposites Need to Attract by Jenna

Her Morning

A/N: This is my first attempt at writing Sessh/Kag and since I actually haven't finished watching the series I'm gonna play it safe with an Alt. I have to warn my readers though that this story may or may not progress very far. I'm posting this first chapter solely on a whim ahha.

Kagome Higurashi’s alarm clock could not have screamed in her ear any louder than it was that morning. Groaning curses she slammed her hand down on the evil contraption for silence. Sighing in relief she finally opened her eyes to see the time. 6am,  “Ugh, why did I set it so early?”

“Mama! It’s today! School starts today!” Her son’s excited yells tore the rest of her sleepiness from her brain.

‘Oh that’s right. Shippo’s first day of school.’ Bracing herself she left the warmth and comfort of her bed. Stretching her arms above her head Kagome sighed, “ Today feels like it will be a good one.” Her back gave a satisfying ‘crack’ just as her son came into the room.

With bright red hair, sharp green eyes,  pointed ears and a puffy fox tail Shippo was the most adorable fox demon kit she’d ever seen. In a world where demons populated 45 percent of the world she had seen other fox demons, after expending a lot of her reiki and spending a lot of money to get out to their hiding place. It had all been worth it and was worth it every year. “Mama you okay? You have a funny look on your face.”

Crouching down she scooped Shippo up into her arms, “I’m just happy. What do you want for breakfast?”

“Can I have pancakes with chocolate chips?” Shippo’s mouth watered remembering the last time they’d had pancakes.

Giggling at the dreamy smile Shippo was making she walked over to the kitchen, “Since it’s a special day I’ll make pancakes, but you have to promise to tell me everything that happens at school today okay?”

“I promise! Can I help make them?” Kagome put her little demon on the counter by the sink.

“Of course, wash your hands while I get everything we need.”

Kagome’s thoughts drifted to her schedule for that day as she pulled out bowls, pans and ingredients. ‘Drop off Shippo, go to my cafe job, two hour break, then head to my restaurant job until I need to get Shippo. Sounds about right.’  “Mama you set the stove on fire again.” Kagome leaped back as a column of flames erupted from her stove.

The minor battle against the fire taken care of breakfast proceeded as usual. Their delicious pancakes finished Kagome cleaned up their mess then cleaned up both Shippo and herself.

Dressed and packed Kagome lead Shippo off to his school. “Mama....what if I don’t make any friends?” Shippo’s sudden question caused Kagome to stop in the middle of the sidewalk.

Crouching down to see Shippo’s face better she asked softly, “Why are you worried about that?”

“Well...What if they find out I’m a demon? They’ll get scared and hate me because I’m different.” Shippo subconsciously touched the charm that he wore around his neck that cast a disguise on his true form. His hair was black, his ears curved and his paw feet appeared to be normal legs with socks and shoes.

Placing a hand on Shippo’s head Kagome leaned in a little closer, “Did I ever tell you how I became friends with Uncle Miroku?” Shippo shook his head. “I met Miroku in first grade and we were both nervous throughout the day. But then I accidentally let go of my powers. Miroku had been happy to see it because he had powers too. We stayed best friends because we had something in common, and because we just acted like ourselves. Do you understand what I’m saying?” Kagome knew Shippo was smart, being over 50 years old helped but his understanding of logic was well beyond what was expected.

Shippo gave a small nod while voicing his thoughts out loud, “ You’re saying I will make friends just by being myself.”

“Exactly. You’ll make plenty of friends Shippo, don’t worry.” Shippo smiled ear to ear believing his mother’s words. She’d never lied to him so he knew she was right. He would make friends. His confidence rekindled Shippo continued on with his head held high.

Shippo’s smile grew as his school came into sight. School buses and parents’ vehicles were parked in front of Teisho Elementary, one of the few public schools in Japan that allowed demons and humans to cohabitate. Though it was school policy that demons stay concealed as a human until 4th grade when they can choose to reveal themselves or continue to charade as a human.

Stopping outside the gates Kagome stooped down to hug her little kit, “You be good, do as the teachers say, and no pranks. I’ll see you after school sweetie.”

“Love you Mama, bye!” Shippo yelled this over his shoulder too excited to get into the building, she watched until he disappeared inside the school followed by a little girl with long black hair and small pony tail on the top of her head.

Sighing in content she glanced at her watch, her heart and lungs froze mid-function, “I’m late!” Propelled by fear she took off back to the apartment building with curious parents, such as a long black haired man, watching her disappear around the corner.

A/N: Because this was on a whim there is no editing and there is no promises of another chapter any time soon....if at all >.> Sorry. I'm a horrible selfish person ahha.
