We were in the library trying to read and find something that might help us in the upcoming contests of sorts but my mood was turning sour. I started fidgeting, my boredom making me feel irritable and suffocated.
"My lady," Sango, my maidservant who stood behind me, whispered. "Keep reading and stop fidgeting."
"I could not read any more. The words are starting to jumble itself in my head. Can we go out?" I whispered back.
"Lady Kagome!" Sango's disapproval could be heard even in her low voice. "We could not."
"Yes, we can. And, we will." I closed the book softly and yanked Sango with me. When we reached the library's guardian, I put on my best intimidating face. "I must excuse myself and my maidservant for a while.
The library's guardian looked up from his scrolls and bowed his head. We made our escape.
Once we were out of the library, I exhaled and squealed a little. "We must go to the Middle Lands. I shall bring you with me today." I informed Sango. "You must be tired of these walls or those lonesome hallways. Have you ever been in the Middle Lands, Sango-chan?"
"No, my lady. Have you?" She asked, a frown marring her brows, surprise evident in her chocolate-brown eyes.
"Of course! Why do you look so surprised?" I asked curiously.
"Nothing, my lady. However, going out of the palace might bring trouble to you," she replied, bowing her head slightly.
"I've been going out of here since last week. There is nothing to worry about." I held her hands in mine and ran toward back gate of the palace. I could not help but notice how delicate her hands felt in mine, as if she was not a full-fledged youkai but I shrugged it off and tried to persuade her to calm down.
"Are you certain we should do this?" Sango asked as I was pushing her to open the gates so we could get out.
"Yep. Trust me!"
"Hnn. What is there to trust in a hanyou?" Behind us, the arrogant lord-slash-stalker scoffed.
I turned around and fixed him with a glare. "Shut up."
Sango gasped behind me, her panic lacing the air around us.
"You are even influencing your own mistress to do something wrong, hanyou." He reprimanded.
My eyes widened slightly. He assumed that Sango was one of the chosen. I need to play this carefully and wisely. He stepped forward and pushed me away a little roughly so he could take a closer look at Sango.
"What is your name?" He demanded, staring at her intently.
"Sa—sa—sang—sango, my lord," she stuttered, her lips trembling.
My eyes widened again. What if he checked her name and it wasn't on the list?
"Hnn. Why have you chosen a hanyou to serve you, Lady Sango?" He asked.
"Uh…my lord. Uhm...erm…"
"Hey, you're scaring her!" I scolded him, halting their conversation before Sango slipped and uttered something that might give away my identity.
When her eyes met mine, I mouthed, "Just go with the flow."
"I am not talking to you," he said, turning his cold eyes to me. "Do not disrespect your Lady."
I rolled my eyes at him and said, "Maybe Lady Sango should just go back to her chambers. I do not want her in any trouble, after all."
Sango bowed low to him and then turned to me, in a steady yet low voice, she said, "Be back before nightfall."
I curtseyed and grinned. Well, who knows that she is such a good actress! But I think I wanted some games with him. I chuckled inwardly.
Before Sango could get past me, I grabbed her arm and ran outside of the palace with a scream and a laugh.
"My lady, I cannot go." Sango's death grip on my arms and her wide eyes halted me in my run.
She took a deep breath and collapsed on the forest floor. "What is wrong?" I asked worriedly.
"No—nothing. I am…I do not know but I am not feeling—" Before she could finish her sentence, she lost consciousness.
"Sango. Hey! What happened to you?" I asked in confusion.

I saw the hanyou pushing a demoness out of the palace and assumed that she was her mistress. I stepped forward and halted their…escape. However, I did not anticipate…Xiao to take Sango away with her.
So troublesome. If anyone knew their identity, they could be taken hostage and the West would be responsible for them.
I found them on the ground where Lady Sango was lying down, unconscious.
"What have you done?" I asked in an accusing tone when I reached them.
"I did not do anything." She huffed indignantly. "Why would I do something bad to her?"
"I did not say that you have."
"It was implied in your tone!" She argued.
"You must be guilty."
"I may look troublesome to you but I do not hurt people unnecessarily unlike you or anyone else out there!" Her voice rise in her anger.
"I do not hurt people unnecessarily."
I stepped towards her and she stepped towards me, her index finger pointing at me and nudging my chest angrily.
"Oh yeah? But you were always trying to hurt me."
"You wounded me and disrespected me," I emphasized.
"Disrespected you? How about me?" She asked while looking at me steadily, her blue eyes seemed brighter in her anger. "You have insulted me in every possible way. You have disrespected me over and again. Please remember that."
"You are—" I tried to say something when she cut me off.
She walked away and tried to lift Sango to her back. "I am what?" She screamed. "I am just a hanyou, an abomination, who doesn't deserve respect? Please. I have heard that too many times, it already sounds too irritating when repeated." She turned away, carrying Sango carefully. "I do not know why everybody assumes the worst of me. But you don't know me, okay? You don't know anything so keep your pathetic judgments to yourself."
She jumped away and I was left standing there in surprise at her outburst.
After a while, I concealed my aura and followed her to the Middle Lands. I knew she would bring Lady Sango there.
Upon arriving and hiding behind some tall trees, I saw her sitting with four wolf-youkai, three males and one female.
When one the male wolf-youkai put his arms around her playfully, I bit back an angry growl. The bitter anger I felt mystified me incredibly. For the first time in my life, I reacted impulsively and showed myself to them. The four youkai assumed a defensive stance but the hanyou remained seated, looking at me with indifferent eyes.
"Who is this?" The male wolf-youkai, who had his arms around her shoulders, asked arrogantly.
The hanyou shrugged and picked an invisible dirt on her lap.
"Wait a minute, is this the pompous ass you are telling us about?" The other male wolf-youkai asked.
A smirked lifted her lips. "Yeah. The pompous ass."
I narrowed my eyes at her but otherwise remained silent and immobile.
The three wolf-youkai surrounded me with arrogant smirks on their dirty faces. "What do you want us to do then?"
"Think you can handle him, Sohma?" She asked, lifting her chin to me. Her eyes glowed with amusement and mischief.
"Do not underestimate us, my friend." Sohma shook his head at her and cracked his knuckles.
When one of the wolf-youkai attacked, I easily grabbed him by the neck and threw him away. I kicked the other one in the chest and when the one she called Sohma was the only man standing, I smirked lethally.
In a blink, I had him by the neck and lifted him up in the air. But when I saw the hanyou charging at me, I threw him down and jumped away.
She scoffed as she looked at me. "Why do come all the way here again?"
For you. "For Lady Sango. You have kidnapped her."
"Kidnapped? What an accusation!" She spat bitterly. She charged at me again as her friends cheered her on.
I grabbed her in the arm but she used this momentum to kick me in the chin. I pulled away again.
"Come on. Fight!" She taunted, her blue eyes glowing bright.
I narrowed my eyes, enjoying her rebellious attitude. The beast inside me was already making images of what we should do once we tamed such a wild female. She growled and attacked me repeatedly with her claws, I dodged over and over as I drew her closer and deeper to the forest.
"Is that all you can do, youkai?"
"No, hanyou. I could do so much more than your mind could comprehend." Finally, I grabbed her right hand and yanked her towards me.
She lost her balance and fell on my chest. Her left hand came up to push me away but I grabbed it too. I pulled both of her hands and pushed her to a tree, restraining her with the weight of my body.
She looked at my eyes and bared her fangs. "Let go!" She had been saying that since the first day I met her.
"No."
"Let me—"
Before she could finish her sentence, I silenced her with a kiss.
