A Choice is Made

Centuries and he has never cared for one season over another.

They affect him even less than the passing of time,

and there have been entire cycles that he has missed in his indifference of them.

So why now?

Why should he want now to linger in the sunshine?

Why should he notice now how becoming the warmth could be?

Even twirling beneath the burning sun, she shines brighter than anything in his nearly endless memory

and strangely he hopes never to forget the blaze that is her.

Her chime-like laughter entices the gentle breezes to come on a hot day and her smiles beam.

His cold heart simmers in her presence.

A warm thrum begins to settle in what he once thought was a dormant space within his chest.

He believes he has decided upon his favorite season after centuries of uncaring,

and it is summer.

She is summer.
