Kagome squeaked and ducked, trying to avoid the rain of canary-yellow spit. Worm-youkai acid spit had nothing on Sesshoumaru’s saliva and dokkatsu attack but she really did not want to be covered in red splotches. They were not life-threatening, just very uncomfortable rashes until the skin healed completely.

A quick side-step took her out of range, just enough to shoot an arrow purifying a large chunk of the worm’s spitted attacks. It gave a horrific shriek and thrashed around, unable to raise its head enough to spit again. Just when she was congratulating herself on her success (at avoiding any wardrobe damage from the battle) it happened.

“Kaze no kinu!”

Bits of purple flesh, blue hide, along with pink blood and disgusting worm guts rained down on her and everyone else around her. The miko glared at her mate who had somehow avoided being hit by even a fragment of the worm-youkai’s remains. Her eyebrow twitched as she struggled to not look in InuYasha’s direction. It was his attack that was responsible for this mess, not Sesshoumaru. If she saw his smug crowing expression (for making the killing brow, for beating his brother in this one-upmanship contest) she would S.I.T. him until his back broke.

Kagome hated fighting youkai that had spitting attacks and she especially hated youkai that exploded when killed. No matter how hard she tried the little bits and pieces always rained down on her, drenching her in bug guts and other disgusting fluids.

She looked at Sango who was just as filthy as she was and said calmly, “Where is the closest lake or river? We need to clean up.”

She could see the veiled amusement in her mate’s eyes, but before he could respond he was interrupted by twin cries, demands for help from the children.

“Sesshoumaru-sama!” “Kaa-san!”

Then in unison, “Ah-Uhn’s hurt!”
