Kibble

Edited: March 30, 2012

~ooO Kibble Ooo~

Sesshoumaru continued to watch the miko as she prepared ‘ramen’. It was odd, how the dried strands made from flour paste did not dissolve in hot water but softened into thick strings. The miko removed an odd see-through container from her backpack and opened it, scooping a handful of dried bits that were tossed into the boiling pot. It had an interesting scent that caught his attention making his mouth water. He ignored the urge to demand some of it to… ahem check for enchantment or poisons.

Within seconds the hanyou was standing beside the campfire, drawn by the very enticing scent. Sesshoumaru sniffed. The uncouth being was salivating as he watched the miko ladle the entire contents of the pot into a very large bowl and hand it to him. The hanyou grinned broadly and bounded away to settle on the lower branches of a tree to consume the ‘ramen’ very loudly and very messily.

Sesshoumaru watched bemused as the miko refilled the pot with water and set it to boil again. She then took out more squares of ‘ramen’, to drop in the water once it was hot.

“Why do you make two separate batches miko?” he asked her.

She grinned at him. “As you just saw, InuYasha is very fond of ramen. Carrying one big pot to make enough for all of us and him is too hard.” Her eyes twinkled with secret glee. “Besides, I add a special something just for InuYasha.”

“Those odd smelling dried bits,” Sesshoumaru concluded. “What is it?” he asked unable to suppress his curiosity.

She looked around, and once she had ascertained InuYasha was more interested in consuming his ramen than eavesdropping, she opened her bag and pulled out the odd smelling storage container and removed the lid. She scooped out a few fragments of the interesting substance and held it out to the daiyoukai.

“It’s kibble,” she told him.

“What is kibble?” he asked.

“It’s a special food my people feed to pet dogs because it has vitamins and minerals that keep them healthy.”

Sesshoumaru was horrified. “You are feeding him what your people feed mortal dogs?” He was not certain if he should feel insulted on the hanyou’s behalf or amused at what the miko had done.

She looked offended. “It’s for his own good!” she insisted. “I noticed his hair was getting rather coarse and brittle. It’s really improved since I started adding kibble to his ramen. He was probably missing certain proteins by eating only human food. I mean you eat demon food right? You’ve always refused to eat what we eat.”

Sesshoumaru blinked. “That is true,” he allowed. The miko was right. Human food had interesting scents and textures but it did not satisfy his body’s needs.

The miko nodded firmly. “Then I’m right. Kibble is formulated for dogs and has the stuff his body needs.”

Sesshoumaru could not stop one corner of his mouth from lifting in a faint smile. “This one would suggest you not tell the hanyou that.”

Kagome blinked, considered his advice, then nodded. “Ehh, I suppose you’re right. Well it’s his fault for never bothering to ask me like you just did.” Then she returned her attention to the now boiling pot and dropped three squares of ‘ramen’ into it.

Sesshoumaru turned away to hide his smile. He would not inform the hanyou that he was eating food meant for domesticated pet dogs. It was oddly fitting since the miko did have control over the hanyou.
