Chapter 1

Rin sulked in her room as her father and his girlfriend sat downstairs in the living room talking.  It had been this way for nearly a year.  She did not like that a woman thought she could replacing her mother and take her father away.  She'd never let that happen.

"Rin, we need to talk." Sesshomaru said as he sat on her bed besides her.  Her brown eyes continued to stare at the shelves of toys and books.  They sat in the pink room quietly before she decided to speak.

"Where's your girlfriend," she said hatefully.  Narrowing her eyes she brought her knees up to her chest and rested her head on them.  "Wouldn't you rather be with her." She whispered.

Sesshomaru sighed feeling defeated.  "She went home.  Why don't you like her?  It has been a year and she tries to be your friend."

"I don't like her!" She yelled and glared in his direction.  "She's taking you away from me and you let her," she sobbed. "I don't want her to take moms place."  Her hands covered her face as she rubbed her eyes.

"She's not taking me away," he said to her, placing a hand on her shoulder.  "Nor is she trying to replace you mother.  But do I not love you enough for you to know that no one will ever be as important to me as you are?"

Rin cried as her father spoke and it broke his heart.  He had thought he raised her to know she would always be first in his eyes.  She had not spoke to him about it until now.  It broke his heart even more as he thought about how long she had felt this way about Kagome.

"A year and you tell me now?  Why wait so long?" He whispered.

Rin sniffled before replying. "I tried to put up with it for you, but I can't anymore." She rubbed her eyes before letting them drift down to her bedroom floor.  "I don't want her as a mother anyway!  She's not good to me!  We don't even talk!"

Sesshomaru knew that was true, but also knew Kagome tried.  However, it was his daughter he was looking at.  "I... I will break up with her." He said a bit sadly.  Rin turned her head to him with tear filled eyes full of doubt.

"You'd do that?  For me?" Sesshomaru nodded slowly and patted her dark brown hair filled head.

"If it makes you happy," he whispered.  Getting up he left her room, closing the door behind him and she smiled gleefully.  It worked! She thought.  After waiting so long daddy will finally leave her and it will be just the two of us. Like it should always be.

Sesshomaru stood in his study the next day.  Kagome's eyes on him as she waited for him to do something.  He had called her to his house and led her to his study and she was happy to follow.

"I have something to tell you," she said happily with her hands clasped behind her back.  Her brown eyes shining happily as she opened her mouth to continue, her hand going in her jean pocket ready to pull an object out, however Sesshomaru cut her off and raised his hand to silence her.  His amber eyes watched her emotionlessly and she gulped nervously.

"I have decided to end things with you," he started and watched as her mood took a nosedive and she pulled her hand back out of her pocket and let it rest at her side.

They stood in silence before the dark raven haired woman opened her mouth.  "Why?"  she asked hoarsely.  Kagome felt her throat tighten as she tried to keep her tears at bay.  They had dated happily for a year and she thought things were going great between them, even if his daughter did not like her much.  She wanted that to change and tried her best to be friends with the little eight year old, but she was stubborn.

"I feel that I need to find a suitable partner.  One who may become a mother to Rin."  Kagome's eyes widened, her hands clenching into fists.  She watched as he stood against his mahogany desk, shifting to lean against it.

"So I'm not good enough to be a mother to Rin?  Or suitable enough to be with you?"  She questioned, anger filling her voice.  Sesshomaru shook his head before she raised her right hand and slapped him across his face.  "I wasted a year of my life with you,"  she hissed as she stood a breath away from him.

Sesshomaru watched her before turning his back to her and arranging his paper work.  "Your mistake."  His body stayed turned and he heard her breathing shallowly before hearing the door open and her footsteps run down the hall and away from him.  He sighed and rubbed his temples, before fixing his tie and turning to leave the room.

She leaned against the wall, trying to listen to the muffled voices.  She smiled as the door was open and the raven haired woman ran the other way towards the stairs and down.  Rin stood in the shadows waiting to hear the sound of the front door opening.  As it did, the little girl ran to her room and watched the woman get into her car and drive away.

She smiled before hiding it behind her hand as she heard her bedroom door open.  Turning to her father with a frown and tilting her head to the left she waited for him to speak.

"Come Rin.  Dinner is ready." Rin walked over to her father feeling him pat her head and smiled warmly.  Just as it should be.  Rin remembered the talk her father had with her and was glad it finally happened.
