Prompt: Creation

Note: This story is an my twist of a myth of creation known as "Creation by and From Thyself". This story is a part of the The Principal Upanisads, written between 700 and 600 BC in India.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

In the beginning, there was nothing. No earth, no sea, no land and no life. All that existed was a power, the power of a being that had no self. This power decided it needed more.

"Let me have a self." He thought. And so a mind was born. As his mind wandered over many things, moving from thought to thought; things began to take shape. Water surged forth, its constant movement mimicking the Lord of Creation's thoughts. It swirled and ebbed, rose and crashed upon itself in constant motion.  As the water moved, it formed a foam along its surface. The foam hardened to rock and thus formed the land. The land spread across the Lord of Creation's world, land that that called to curiosity. And so he came to the land to rest his weary mind. As he rested, the luminance that was he soon created fire.

The fire brought many thoughts to the Lord of Creation, for the his mind yearned to see more. It was then he noticed, that sight was not easy. And so from himself he divided three things. One part he fed to the swirling flames, their light and heat a powerful thing. However the flame flickered and withered, and the Lord of Creation thought to himself,

"I must give a source to the flame, a constant power to feed it." And so the second part of himself he let rise into the world, a wind to carry the air to the farthest reaches of his world. The air would bring with it the fuel for the fire. As the Lord of creation gazed at his world, he realized that he could not see his world at all for even his fire did not illuminate everything. And so he took a third part of himself and lifted to sky to shed its glorious light upon the world he had created. The ball of light became the sun and it shed its brilliance over his creations.

"Such wonder, such power. I must see if for myself."And so the Lord of Creation created a body for himself.

The mists arose from the sea, the earth from the land, the flame from the fires, and the wind from the air and all joined together and created a form. Pale skin stretched outwards, marred by beautiful magenta strikes. Long silvery hair flowed from his head, dancing in the wind and fell to his thighs. Magenta lined lids opened to reveal golden orbs that danced with the heat of the flame. His nude form stood upon the land, surveying his creation with the eyes of his new body.

He began to walk, his feet treading upon the soft grass. He walked for hours, even days. His pace never quickened, nor did it slow. He did not rest upon his journey, his eyes focused upon the horizon. Over mountains he walked, through forests and fields, through snow and through rock he wandered. He only paused in his wandering when an odd feeling settled over his mind.

"I am alone." The man felt the strange feeling grow, and it began to consume his thoughts. How could he, the one who created everything, create such a feeling as this without knowing? How could he change this feeling into something different. Golden eyes gazed down at his hands. "I will create once more, a being this time. One to share this world with me." How would he create this being? Should he use the land and create the being from rock? No, rock would make the being to harsh. Should he create the being from the water? No, the water would make the being too soft. Should he create the being from fire? No, he could not create the being from fire for they would destroy what he had created. The air would not work either, for the air was meant to be free.

He once again gazed down at his hands, a thought entering his mind. He would create the being from himself! What better way to create a companion than creating them from your own self? So he closed his eyes and let his power fill him. His form began to grow and grow. It shimmered and shifted to something different, yet something the same. He grew so large that he split in two. One half remained as he was, a man of silver beauty. The other form however flared brilliantly. The fire came to investigate the Lord's creation, but was pulled into the being. The Lord feared that the fire would burn his new creation, yet when the light subsided he saw that it did not. Before him stood something that took his breath away.

Her skin was not quite as pale as his, but instead seemed to glow with a darker hue. Long dark hair framed her pretty face. Her eyes were a blue that matched the very seas he had created. Her lips were a full dark pink, rivaling even the most beautiful of flowers. She looked at him with an expression of awe, those perfect lips parted slightly.

"Who are you?" She asked in a warm voice. The Lord of creation thought for many long moments, unsure of how to respond.

"I do not have a name." He admitted, his voice a deep rustic tone. The woman before him gave him a smile, her blue eyes shining.

"Then I shall give you one. I shall call you Sesshomaru." Sesshomaru thought of the name, and tested it upon his tongue. He decided that the name suited him.

"Then you are Kagome." He named his newest creation. She smiled at him once more, the gentle look in her eye calling to him. She reached out, taking his hand in hers.

"We are one, but we are not." She said as she traced the strips along his wrist. "You are not as I am, and I am not as you are, but we are one none the less." His other hand lifted and grazed the side of her cheek. Her words were true. He was connected with her in a way he was not connected with his other creations. This creation was special, for it was the creation made for him.

"You are mine." Sesshomaru said softly, his thumb grazing her cheek. A spark lit into her eyes, a trait of the flame that had been pulled into her creation.

"If I am yours, then you must be mine." Sesshomaru felt a smirk cross over his features.

"Then it is so." He said as he pulled her closer. Those lips called to him, and he decided that as the Lord of Creation, he need not deny his wants.

Sesshomaru claimed his lover, his other half. Together they birthed the beings of the world, both youkai and human. For many long years, they spent their time together in harmony.

It was on a quiet night that Kagome sat brushing her long raven locks. Sesshomaru was patrolling the lands he had claimed as his own. She smiled as she thought of her mate, her husband, her lover. A bright glow interuppted her thoughts, and she turned a being of flame that stood in her room.

"Mother of creation, mate to the Lord, may I ask you a question." The flame asked, its fire flickering about it.

"Of course, flame, I will answer as I can."

"Why do you bed  the lord and allow him to create much more? Why do you not hide when he comes to your chambers? Certainly this world needs no more." Kagome pondered his words.

"The world is large, and fruitful. Would more truly harm it?" She asked of the flame. It regarded her for a moment before speaking.

"The children you produce will destroy the world the Lord had worked so hard to create. He would be devastated if such were to happen. Do you want to devastate the lord?" The flame asked her. Kagome felt her heart beat within her chest, an odd feeling of guilt well within her. A tear formed in her eye as she thought.

"He would hate me if I allowed such to happen. I must hide from him so he can create no more!" With that, Kagome stood and fled the room. The flame watched her go, its trickery as destructive as its fires.

"Flame, why do you linger within my wife's room?" Sesshomaru's voice was cold, causing the flame to shrink back.

"I was merely coming to check on the Mother of Creation. The flame within her called to me, but when I got here she was gone. It would seem she was unhappy." Sesshomaru felt his heart tear in two. She was unhappy with him? How could that be? She was his other half, his lover, his wife. How could she be unhappy with him? He grit his teeth and fled the room. He would chase down his wife and give her everything she desired that she was happy once more.

Kagome knew Sesshomaru would chase after her. She ran as quickly as her legs could carry her, but they seemed not to desire to move.

"If only I could run faster!" She thought, "Then I could outrun my husband, and he would never catch me! He would create no more, and this land would not be destroyed." The Mother of Creation was created from the Lord's own flesh, so as her mind though her body shifted. From her beautiful form burst forth a being with four legs. The four powerful legs moved with thundering speed, her long body as dark as her hair had been. In her new form she raced over the lands, hiding from her husband.

No matter how far she ran, however, she could not avoid her husband. As she grazed upon the lush grass of her lover's world, she heard the thunderous steps of another. She lifted her head. Familiar gold eyes gazed at her with love, and she reared up in defiance. She shook her head, her dark mane flying about.

"No!" She said to him, though her words were not as they once were. Sesshomaru ignored her though, for his form now matched hers. Instead of the dark black coat that she possessed, his was a brilliant white. Magenta stripes dotted his four legs and his back, and even his face. His golden eyes glowed with a beautiful brilliance.

Even in this foreign form, he was so beautiful. Her heart wept as she gave in, her love for him to great to resist. In their new forms they came together as a husband and wife, creating a new breed of creatures upon the world that they called horses. They lived many years within this form, filling the land with the beautiful beings.

However, on a night when Kagome was grazing in the very same field that the her husband had found her before, the flame came to her again.

"Oh Mother of Creation, what have you done? The horses you made have grazed upon the land and eaten its grass! The world will soon be destroyed! You must run and hide from the Lord, lest any other creatures be spawned!" It cried to her. Kagome was filled with horror at how easily she had given in. In her shame she took off from the lands she had come to know.

She raced and she fled, wishing she knew how to hide from her husband.

"Change me quick, to a being unlike this form!" She cried. Her power lifted and her form began to change. The four legs gave way, for they were no longer needed. Instead two grew into large wings, and the two webbed feet. Her neck outstretched and a hard beak formed over her face. Instead of hair, dark feathers appeared. Kagome flapped her wings and lifted into the air.

 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Sesshomaru returned to the lands and found the flame sitting by the river where his wife had been.

"Where is my wife?" He asked of the flame, suspicious of its presence.

"I came to her, my lord, for she was unhappy once more. Yet when I came, she was already running off into the distance." The tricky flame said. Sesshomaru cursed and raced off after his wife. He would not lose her again!

It had been many nights since she had last seen her husband, and Kagome felt her heart shattering at the thought. She landed in a lake, the beautiful sun shining over head. She was lonely and sad. She drifted atop the water, uncaring of where she head. It was not until she heard a splash that she looked up. In front of her was a creature of brilliant white feathers, and intense golden eyes. It was Sesshomaru, and she felt his love through their bond. Sesshomaru went to her as a husband to a wife, and together they created swans, and all the other birds of the land.

Many times the flame came to Kagome, and she would run fearful of upsetting her husband. Each time she ran she changed her shape in attempt to hide, yet Sesshomaru always found her. Their love was too strong to stay separate.  Soon the land was dotted with all different species and animals, creatures and critters. The world was filled with life, and the Lord of Creation was happy. With the love of his wife, and all of his children, the Lord of Creation separated himself from his power, and lived out his days with his wife as mortal beings in the original forms he had created for them. The world he created moved on, constantly evolving and changing. The power of the creator became one with the very world he created.
