Chapter Forty-Two: Melancholic

He might as well have been dead.

His eyes were dull, hollow – haunted.

His frame was skinnier then it should have been lack of nutrition was making itself known.

He looked haggard and dirty from the constant travel.

He searched high and he searched low.

But no sign.

No sign of the brat or the slayer. No sign of the monk or the cat.

The hanyou visiby flinched.

No sign of Kagome.

Taking a moment to rest his weary feet, the hanyou took deep breaths to even his erratic breathing.

And he paused.

With a tentative sniff he turned and there was a moment where his heart stopped beating.

The melancholic air dispersed from Inuyasha and was replaced by the blistering feeling hope.

The scent was old – buried under others but it was there and it was hers.

And God – how he hoped she was alive.

‘Gome Yuki:: For those of you that had been asking about Inuyasha. I imagine that if she were missing for days there would be no rest for our poor friend. He would move heaven and hell trying to get his first real friend back. You know? I think even if it had worked out differently canon-wise and he really didn’t end up with her – I think Inuyasha would have loved her all the same and been there for her through thick and thin.
